Has anyone had a dry socket? Mild pain and white bit came out but dentist said it looks like a dry socket

Hi!

I had an upper infected tooth pulled out on the 12th, mild pain almost straight away, on the morning of the 14th I spat out what looked like white stringy thing with bit of blood. Dentist looked at my teeth in the afternoon and said it looked like it was a dry socket, but the pain didn't get worse and was still very mild. He washed and filled it but now I'm freaking out that the pain is going to be excruciating in the next few days.
This morning I have virtually no pain but I wonder if it's just because of the filling?

Can you get excruciating dry socket days after having very mild pain? Could it have been a misdiagnosis maybe?

Thank you

Are you on antibiotics? It could be that they're clearing up the infection that would take dry socket pain from ok to excruciating (dry socket with an infection would be very painful). With the infection removed, maybe it's just healing? My dry socket was worse because the infection wasn't treated when they removed the tooth so I had to wait a few days before they decided that yep, you're still infected so we'll treat it...

I had a dry socket infection and it was beyond excruciating. It appeared the day after extraction and I have never felt pain like it. I ended up at the emergency dentist and they packed it with antibiotics and put me on a course of antibiotics too. If you are already on them I’d think you would be ok.

Thank you for your reply!

I am not on any antibiotics. My tooth was slightly infected when taken out but not enough for antibiotics.

I'm sorry to hear about your dry socket and infection, it sounds very painful
