Prom 2024

My daughter does her GCSE's this year so prom is looming. Looking for a reasonably priced dress, it will only be worn for a couple of hours. Money is tight, I can't find anything second hand so far. Has anyone used Stacees or similar sites. Are they trustworthy?

Thanks

My DD used JJs House for both her prom dresses (Y11 and Y13 - switched school for A level!). I was extremely dubious the first time, but the dress arrived on time and was beautifully made. Same the second time round. I thought they were good value.
She has kept both, and has used one for a ball at Uni so it may get more use.

How early are you planning to buy? To me if feels ages away but DD and her friends are already looking.

There is nothing wrong with deciding not to attend. A dress worn only once or twice is not environmentally friendly (same for other clothing).

OP, does DD know what style she would like? I'd suggest moving this thread to Style & Beauty, they're really clued up on how to find prom dresses!

Ebayor second hand bridesmaid and pay to bling up?

RachelGreensHair · 15/01/2024 10:43

I don't agree with PP, if a child wants to go they shouldn't miss out. Keep an eye on sales on sites like ASOS.

I got some gorgeous dresses that were originally over £250 from needle and thread, brand new from New Life. Like I said, add this to the style and beauty section and they can help with looking on second hand sites or even rental sites.

Thank you. Her friends are starting to buy their dresses so that's why I'm thinking I should do something! Also gives me the chance to spread the cost. She'd like to go, it's up to her to choose. I will look at JJs thank you

We used jjs House.
£160 for a beautiful dress. Wore well, washed well.
Can't really go wrong.

There seems to be a lively 2nd hand market.

Stacees reviews online say postage is £30:£40 and that they make returns almost impossible, with talk of trading standards. Website says they do returns, but the reviews say when you try to initiate the return the problems arise.

not sure about JJ’s house, looks to be a similar type of thing.

Try Quiz or Lipsy London

nopenotplaying · 16/03/2024 17:58

We are all sorted now. I got a pre loved stacees dress, looks like new for £70 off fb marketplace. She is very happy ❤️

Glad your DD is sorted.

I'm looking for a Jumpsuit for my DD, except she's tiny probably a size 4 if not smaller.

My son didn't go to his prom because non of his friends were going and he didn't want to go
But for a lot of kids it's a rite of passage and the end of compulsory school.

pointythings · 16/03/2024 18:19

That dress is gorgeous, OP!

DO NOT BUY FROM STACEES. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT HONOR THEIR RETURN POLICIES - AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

We ordered a dress for our daughter's prom. The dress came in and did not fit. We bought another from them, and contacted them to return the first dress. It's been nothing but a runaround. The standard China scam - first they offer some money, then they say it'll cost too much to ship back, then they offer a little more money and say we should resell the dress ourselves online. Never once have we gotten the return address.

THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR RETURN POLICIES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

Do NOT trust this merchant with ANY of your money.

It looks lovely, great find! Bet you’d also be able to sell it again should you and DD wish to.
