Man Behaving Sadly - Simon Harris - where has he gone?

I've read an article which questions how much he was paid during the pandemic to run social media for Essex Council

https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/24043093.simon-harris-essex-council-payments-pandemic/

I'm making no comment on whether that's value for money because I don't know what the 'right' amount would be.

I came across this because I was looking for his take on the Horizon/Post Office scandal. There was a post that said he'd set up a fundraiser for the victims to fight for compensation. Then another from someone linked to the original fund saying Simon hadn't been in touch with them about allocating the funds to the original fund. He regularly used to organise fundraisers by riding on the news e.g. RNLI, formula milk, McDonald's for children.

Does anyone know where he's gone and if he's OK? He's deleted all his social media accounts so I can't check the veracity of statements made about him against his word of what went on.

Blogger handed £493k by Essex Council for Facebook page defends 'vital service'

A total of £493,000 was given to the Man Behaving Dadly blogger, which vary from £500 on May 19, 2021, to £100,000 on August 11, 2021

If you google it he's done a vanishing act from socials. There are a lot of questions about where his fundraisers were going.

mynameiscalypso · 14/01/2024 23:10

Yes, I was following this too especially as I follow a couple of lawyers who dig into the murky world of crowdfunding. I suspect he may have had good intentions but ultimately organised it all in a terrible way that reflected very badly on him. I assume he'll be back on social media soon.

SgtJuneAckland · 14/01/2024 23:11

It is true that he was paid that amount of money by ECC and that no contract was tendered for, he was just given that role without competition and that amount of money, albeit some of it was supposedly to pay other subcontractors. This is being stained as they have their own Comms team and being public funds there should've been processes followed. (They cite COVID as to why this didn't happen)
He has closed his social media down after a brief statement because he was being hounded.

I have no opinion on him one way or the other, but live in Essex and have heard this from work related as well at media sources.

SavBlancTonight · 14/01/2024 23:11

I have never looked at his fundraisers but always enjoyed his posts. He does seem to.have disappeared from twitter though. Weird.

SgtJuneAckland · 14/01/2024 23:12

Questioned not stained

Datdamndamp · 14/01/2024 23:16

I did read that Legal Gengar on twitter was trying to ascertain where the £24k for the baby milk fundraiser had gone.

Simon Harris has deleted all social media, so there are not straightforward answers.

£500k is a huge amount of money, I've worked on 2-year local authority contracts for less than 5% of that. They were completely scrutinised, involved many hours of paid staff time that was all accounted for, had significant deliverables and extended sign off procedures. Simon says his funding was used to pay multiple people but transfer was expedited through him. That's not how government dept procurement works in my experience but maybe local authorities are different.

I've just noticed the typo in my title. Should be Man Behaving Dadly. Haven't found anything more this morning.

His DC go the same school as my DC. He is there regularly to drop them off and pick them up, despite his disappearance from social media. He looks the same as always; his face is almost completely immobile, and does not provide any indication of his emotional state.

Knitgoodwoman · 25/01/2024 21:29

I’ve worked in digital marketing for many years, how the hell he got that contract is anyone’s guess! 1/5 if that would be going rate.

A grifter with skills to rival Jack Monroe

That's the reassurance I needed thank you.

Perhaps some people might think my thread is over the top but after that West Midlands fire chief died by suicide last week after his qualifications were questioned by the Sun and he was suspended I do genuinely worry about people in the public eye's mental health when they are called out and shamed. Look at Caroline Flack. I fear we have learnt nothing.

He's around, saw him at the weekend, he's just keeping his head down because of all the allegations. Unfortunately the likes of him and Jack Monroe don't do any favours for Essex's reputation of being full of wide boys, market stall holders and con artists

He's back on social media. https://www.facebook.com/manbehavingdadly

I would prefer than money was put to something useful. https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/24087421.simon-harris-essex-county-council-defends-500k-payment/

HobnobsChoice · 23/07/2024 21:17

He deleted his twitter account and then I think someone else took it over. If you're missing him just recite the following to yourself again the suggested intervals

Quick parents get that Banana out of the kid's lunchboxes now before it turns sentient (use at the start of every school holiday Inc half term)

Tories eh. What a bunch of bastards (weekly)

No Keith/Barry/Graham migrants aren't insert wildly made up event from the depths of Simon's head fortnightly

Oooh breastfeeding isn't it great that some women have the right shirt potatoes and can do it. Even better if it upsets Keith Barry Graham's sensibilities. (Monthly)

Use your head and spread (one off campaign for women to get smear tests never to be repeated)

Now the Tories are in Government expect even more Keith/Barry/Graham content as he can't just write "Boris brushes his hair with a loo brush"
