Help with reading prescription from optician

DS has this prescription

Sphere
right +0.00
left -0.25

cyl
right -0.75
left -0.75

axis
right 120
left 75

He is slightly short sighted I think. DS can’t remember what the optician said. He’s ordered glasses which is fine but I am wondering if it’s possible to buy some back up pairs from Amazon or similar for cheaper. I don’t think it’s as easy as buying reading glasses from b&M with a prescription of +1.

He is slightly short sighted with an astigmatism- he doesn't need reading glasses - they won't help he's a minus prescription not a plus .

Used to be a dispensing optician.

Hi Op
There’s a little bit of astigmatism in both eyes ( myopic astigmatism). The left eye is a tiny bit short-sighted but right eye only has the very slight astigmatism This will be a distance prescription rather than a reading prescription ( helpful for driving, TV , cinema etc) The off the shelf glasses you buy in B&M etc are really reading glasses, so for a different purpose and are in + strengths, not - strengths. Difficult to buy - lenses other than from optical suppliers but you could try online

Thank you both for helping. This makes sense. I am looking at some online places that seem a bit cheaper than the optician. The optician wasn’t bad. I just feel we may need a back up pair or 2.

Take the prescription to an Asda opticians, the spectacles prices on display include lenses and are very low priced.

Can get really cheap prescription glasses online now OP. I have used glasses direct (this was faster) and goggles4u and been happy with both.

Sorry forgot to add you input the prescription yourself, it's very easy.
