Detonating cord cake candles

This is totally mad. But I've seen a cake on Pinterest that I want to do a version of. But I can't work out what is used as the string.

You can but lengths of wick for making your own candles, would that work? I may be on completely the wrong path with that idea! :)

You might be right. It might burn a little too slowly though. I could buy some if it's cheap enough and practice.

Or I was thinking the stuff those indoor sparklers are made of. But I don't know what that is.
