Covering up the car

Car is covered with blanket/sheet ready for the cold weather this week. Protect the Windscreen etc?

Does anyone else do this?

Yes but I have a car cover which fits over my car and loops round the wing mirrors. It saves me so much time in the mornings.

Sahara123 · 14/01/2024 14:25

Doesn’t a sheet or blanket freeze to the windscreen ? Or the rest of the car
I just use de icer spray . I have a glove scraper thing for snow

Ohmylovejune · 14/01/2024 14:27

No but I've got a top.cover for my soft top to protect when it rains

ronoi · 14/01/2024 14:27

When you say 'protect' do you mean from it freezing?

I don't have a car cover but I don't really mind running the car for 5 mins to defrost it either.

Sahara123 · 14/01/2024 14:28

And I will confess that our other car is electric, you can use an app to switch the car on to defrost without leaving the house which is fab!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/01/2024 14:30

I can't think of anything worse than taking off and storing a wet/ iced cover.

InTheRainOnATrain · 14/01/2024 14:40

No… Don’t you end up with a gross defrosting blanket to have to put somewhere?

Tesla?

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 14/01/2024 17:47

Nope. I'm the terrible person that leaves the car running on the drive fir 10 minutes while I'm still in the house.

Sahara123 · 14/01/2024 17:55

@howdoesyourgardengrowinmay
No a Renault !🤣

ArcticBells · 14/01/2024 17:55

Always. I put newspaper on the screen

Jojobees · 14/01/2024 17:58

Yes with a special windscreen protection thingy! I’m up at 04:30 so it reduces time spent outside in - degrees scraping. ( plus I’m short with a tall car and can never reach the middle of the screen!)

FourChimneys · 14/01/2024 17:58

We have a cover, specific to the type of car, which DH put on about an hour ago. It just goes on the washing line to air, not a problem, although a nuisance for those without a garden.

FizzyStream · 14/01/2024 18:03

I don't cover the car because mines electric and defrosts in a couple of minutes but I have just bought a 25kg bag of road salt/grit because our cul de sac is an absolute arse to get out of when it's snowed and then freezes over as it's on a hill and every bloody time (too late) I think "why didn't I get some grit" well now I have, so it probably won't freeze next week now 😂

KateyCuckoo · 14/01/2024 18:05

I don't leave the house until 9/915am and it's always defrosted by then

Sometimes dh has to scrap his before coming home from work which he hates.

CeriB82 · 14/01/2024 18:07

No. I just leave it running to warm up.

Caspianberg · 14/01/2024 18:08

No. Electric car, and we have car port. It’s -minus temp and snow a lot here and never needed to cover.

GrumpyPanda · 14/01/2024 18:10

I have a windscreen cover that also covers the mirrors. Also used in summer against overheating. And dehumidifier pouches on the inside to avoid having to scrape ice off on the inside.

Mumofyellows · 14/01/2024 18:22

No, my husband just defrosts my car for me while I'm in the shower 😂

Well, there are two of us then🤣

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 14/01/2024 19:31

Yes thermal reflective blanket thing, also used in summer to keep the car cool. As for storing when wet and cold it just gets thrown in the boot. Dries quickly enough
