ChatterMonkey · 13/01/2024 21:20

Brain has stopped working and cant think of a good way to word this for an out of office auto reply...

Im going to be out of the country for a work project, so will have limited access to emails. Will be sporadically checking and will respond when i can, but anything urgent, please contact xxxx. During this time will not be contactable by phone, email only.

Can anyone help me put this into a professional sounding out of office email reply...?

I will be out of office from (date) until (date).
During this time, I will be intermittently checking my emails, but unfortunately will not be responding to non urgent issues. If you require an immediate response, in my absence please contact (such and such).
Thank you for your understanding.

“Thank you for your email

I Am currently on an overseas business trip and will not be able to access emails. Should your request be urgent please contact Jeff on xxxx. Otherwise I will respond to your email upon my return.

be totally unavailable, don’t build expectation, then if you do have time to respond it’s a bonus but manages expectations and reduces pressure on you.

ChatterMonkey · 13/01/2024 21:41

I need to still be pretty available on email, as much as possible as i still have other responsibilities while im away working on this project, so cant be totally unavailable, but want to manage expectations for how quickly im going to be able to reply.

Might be better to not overcomplicate it by mentioning being out of the country, and just say out of office with limited email access?

You can still reply when you have the chance but I always buy myself some space with OOO especially when I'm travelling. Sometimes it is almost impossible to reply properly to emails while you're away.

How can you do a job which involves international travel and project management and yet be unable to draft a simple auto response?! I would expect my most junior staff to be able to do that without asking the internet!
