Soundbar for TV

Could anyone advise if they are worth it? I have a new TV but I keep reading that soundbars are amazing. Is it true? Are they easy to use and install? I was looking at Sonos or Bose or Samsung but it seems a lot of money (was looking at the ones up to £400). Thank you!

I love our soundbar. It does make a difference. We are using Samsung, it is quite reliable, easy to connect and use. It can be connected with an optical/hdmi cable or bluetooth.

I bought a new Samsung TV and the sound was awful- really, tinny and thin sounding.
I got a Bose sound bar and it's great - deeper, fuller sound. Very happy.

We’ve got 3 in our house, I’ve never used any of them - dh does but I don’t know what their purpose is tbh!
I’m watching telly now and can hear it just fine 😂

Easy to connect. I think mine was about £260

I have a Bose soundbar for main TV which is great

And I plug my old Bose radio CD player speaker thing into my MacBook and the sound is much clearer

ScribeSev · 13/01/2024 22:30

I use them because my hearing is a bit rubbish so it's much clearer for me.

A bit too loud though when a film plays music

RubySundayy · 13/01/2024 22:32

We have a Bose one and it’s absolutely brilliant.

We have a bose sound bar and love it. We gotcanother for listening to music in the kitchen and a wee sounding that is great for camping and moving around from room to room.

I have a Sonos sound bar and surround sound speakers which are fab. I'm a technophobe and have somehow managed to make it work's

They make a huge difference! There shouldn’t really be any “using” them - once they’re installed they should work automatically.

Ours all have remote controls?!

TheChosenTwo · 13/01/2024 22:43

I mean maybe I’m using them inadvertently but Dh always seems to use their little remote controls when he’s watching tv. I just turn the main tv on and watch!

TheDogsMother · 13/01/2024 22:48

We have a Samsung soundbar on a Samsung TV. Because flat screen smart TVs are so slim there is no space to accommodate decent/speakers. Definitely worth it.

Yes they have remotes but they should be able to be controlled by the TV. Fuck switching a soundbar on separately each time for a game of soldiers!

TheChosenTwo · 14/01/2024 20:25

@Shade17 i just have no interest in even finding out 😂 maybe they do just work automatically 🫣

TheLogicalSong · 14/01/2024 20:28

Yes, definitely worthwhile - proper sound as you'd get from a hi fi. If you connect via HDMI some will work automatically with the TV. We have ours on an optical connection, so a separate remote.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 14/01/2024 20:29

Thanks everyone. Looks like I need to get saving. Not sure which brand though go for. I’ll have to keep a look out for sales. £400 feels like a lot of money to hear the TV better but I do seem to really want one!

Ours is JVC and we are very happy with it.

I have a cheap soundbar and the difference in sound is amazing!! It's one of the reasons I prefer watching TV downstairs!
