I thought it would be 1.3 x 1.95 but it appears this isn't correct!

Thanks so much if you know Grin

Make it i to 2 shape add the total together....simples.

1.3x1 for square plus 0.95x0.5 for rectangle and add them together.

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 12/01/2024 20:18

Obvs not an actual square, but you get what I mean!

3luckystars · 12/01/2024 20:18

Divide into 2 shapes and get area of both then add together.

3luckystars · 12/01/2024 20:21

1.775 is what I got

sorry I edited I’m tired !

Visually divide it into 2 tidy rectangles, the smaller one is 0.95 x 0.5

You have to do some subtraction to figure out the area of larger rectangle, it turns out to be 1 x 1.3

Figure out the area of each separate rectangle
1 x 1.3 = 1.3 units squared big one
0.95 x 0.5 = 0.425 units squared little one
1.3 + 0.425 is your answer

I agree

1.3 x 1.95 would give you the area of a rectangle - but this one has a chunk out of it so as others say you've got to split it into 2 shapes.

NonSequentialRhubarb · 12/01/2024 21:11

Another way to work it out is to find the area that the rectangle would be if it wasn't missing a chunk, then subtract the area of the chunk that's missing.

So
(1.3x1.95) - (0.95x0.8) = 1.775

Leftleg · 12/01/2024 21:14

It's 1.775
I did 0.5 x 1.95
Then 0.8 x 1
Then add together.

LIZS · 12/01/2024 21:18

Split it into two rectangles and add together.

LIZS · 12/01/2024 21:19

Or work out the total of the large rectangle as you started with and deduct the area of the rectangle chunk missing

Meadowfinch · 12/01/2024 21:29

0.95 x 0.5 = 0.475

and

1 x 1.3 = 1.3

Add then together = 1.775

Clevs · 12/01/2024 21:48

1.775

I worked it out by calculating the area of the complete shape, minus the bit that's missing.

So (1.3 x 1.95) - (0.8 x 0.95) = 1.775
