Frozen meal - would you eat this?

Found a veggie and pastry thing in the freezer and it can be cooked from frozen so cooking it now. Trouble is I dont know how old it is (sell by date is December, but doesn’t state the year..) It’s a Christmas food thing, but it could be from two years ago rather than last year. Does it matter - it’s been frozen so surely it’s fine? Would you eat it?

I would

EmmaGrundyForPM · 12/01/2024 16:46

yes, definitely. Unless I was pregnant or something

StarShapedWindow · 12/01/2024 16:47

I wouldn’t eat it because old frozen food isn’t very appealing but I don’t think it’ll make you ill.

GildedAge · 12/01/2024 16:47

I would, if you cook it through it shouldn’t make you ill. It just might not taste as good as it would’ve a couple of years ago.

catelynjane · 12/01/2024 16:48

It won't make you ill but it may not taste very nice! I'd cook it and at least try it though.

Avacardo2023 · 12/01/2024 16:50

Yes I would

kitsuneghost · 12/01/2024 16:52

I would too
worst that could happen is it would have deteriorated in flavour and texture but it won't poison you

LauderSyme · 12/01/2024 16:52

Yes I'd eat it. Waste not want not. Although it might have freezer burn and taste fairly grim.

Thanks all. Partner isn’t keen so I have said if it tastes rank I’ll get us an Indian. So I know what he’s praying for now, lol.

Haha. Me and my mum were laughing last night as we were eating some lamb steaks from her freezer. She said they had use by December on, but also had no idea which December! It definitely wasn’t the one just gone.
I do wish fresh food had the year on! Frozen food does! In reality it’s unlikely to kill you. It’s meant to impair quality eventually but any ancient Arctic scrapings from our freezers have always been as good as the day they went in!

You know he is just going to say it's rank now even if it isn't. Don't you?

teudent · 12/01/2024 17:09

I wouldn't eat it. I'm autistic though and don't like anything that's been frozen; timescale irrelevant, it just tastes different to me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/01/2024 17:11

I would eat it if I were confident it had been fully frozen for however long it was in there.

TellerTuesday · 12/01/2024 17:11

It will be fine. I bet you'll still end up with Indian though.

As my grandad used to say: "what do you think we did before use by dates?"

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/01/2024 21:13

No prizes for those who guessed we ended up with an Indian, lol…
