Did anyone not know we were selling our lives for MNHQ profit? Come on.

I would so love MNchatbot to come on the fraudster threads to 'give them advice' about their ridiculous story. Deserve each other.

There’s a paywall - can you copy and paste the article?

Parenting forum Mumsnet has created an artificial intelligence chatbot which could result in advertisers using its data in marketing campaigns.
Capitalising on more than two decades of parenting wisdom, MumsGPT, as the service is called, has been created using technology from OpenAI, <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/8HyhD/www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/05/23/chatgpt-sam-altman-ai-regulation-risk-fears/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the makers of the hugely popular ChatGPT chatbot.
It will be used by executives to comb through threads left by Mumsnet’s 10 million users, spanning two decades.
Data from the bot is likely to be used to guide policymakers on parenting issues and to allow advertisers to better target marketing campaigns.
The service will not be available to the public, at least at first. Sue Macmillan, Mumsnet’s chief operating officer, said MumsGPT was primarily a research tool but could be opened to users in future.

She said Mumsnet had already used the tool with skincare brands to research skin conditions women experience during the menopause.
Mumsnet, majority owned by founder Justine Roberts, <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/8HyhD/www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/mumsnet-founder-users-have-extraordinarily-strong-vitriolic/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">currently uses a network of 20,000 users who take part in focus panels and product testing, while its research and surveys are also used to influence its political arm which campaign on issues such as childcare.
Analyses of posts on Mumsnet have found that people often look for holidays soon after returning from one, rather than the traditional wisdom that they do so in winter.
Online forums and social media have been a rich resource of data for companies developing AI chatbots, leading to tensions between companies. Reddit, one of the world’s largest message boards, has said it will start charging companies that hoover up its data, while Elon Musk has said that OpenAI is underpaying for access to Twitter’s data.
Mumsnet’s chatbot is entirely trained on data from the website. The company claimed this means its system avoids the “hallucination” problem that leads many chatbots to make up facts, and also counters the gender bias in some AI systems.

Mumsnet – famous for online question and answer sessions with politicians – said MumsGPT had declared that users had “mixed opinions” of Rishi Sunak but “generally have a positive view” of Keir Starmer.
Ms Roberts said: “AI tools are only as powerful as the data they rely on and the richness and provenance of the data behind it is what sets MumsGPT apart from other models.”

I posted a link to the article that bypassed the article, and it was automatically hidden. 😂

Anyway just put the URL into archive.is

BrutChoronzon · 12/01/2024 14:13

Are they autmotatically hiding all posts on this thread or just mine?

What are you saying @BrutChoronzon

I was telling people that the paywall can be bypassed. But my posts were hidden the second I posted them. I'm guessing it's the result of gasp AI.

Although one of them has been unhidden now.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 12/01/2024 14:42

This is so off putting. I've been wondering about pulling back from MN for a while.
It also co insides in my view with a lot of people piling on to OPs with nasty comments that often don't really relate to the point of the thread. Is the chat bot observing these as well.

alltootired · 12/01/2024 15:35

Mn poses as a friendly family club. It is anything but.

LilyMumsnet · 12/01/2024 17:05

Hi all - the posts were hidden by our (occasionally overzealous) spam filter. We've unhidden them now.

As Justine previously posted here we're not planning to use MumsGPT for on-site responses, and everything coming out of it is anonymous. It's more for helping brands and policymakers with useful insights about what Mums think. We've had an Insight team for a while, doing focus groups etc, where we try to help organisations understand what their customers want. MumsGPT just makes it a whole lot easier to analyse and sum up the data because it's got so much processing power.

Why would anyone want their anonymous comments on an online forum to assist in 'helping brands and policymakers with useful insights' or to 'help organisations understand what their customers want'?

So they can develop this but not the android app and barely the website? 🤔

Elleherd · 01/03/2024 10:06

Does this have connections to the rise in Tory posters encouraging punching down, petty jealousy towards anyone getting help, the idea that there are 'hard working tax payers' VS those on benefits, or living of others, and trying to influence ideas that Covid was handled well, Medics are lying, HA tenants are subsidized and entitled scum, not paying for their repairs, and disabled people a state burden that needs reducing?

OdinsHorse · 01/03/2024 10:09

Maybe if your title gave any clue what you were talking about...

Hmm
fabio12 · 01/03/2024 10:19

I felt something was off as so many comments are nonsense, literally not literate. You don't want to call out because people think you are being rude, but you can tell.

Well it'll be a win for men in the end, as they'll decide they don't need us around as they've gained our unfiltered wisdom. Hope MN have factored in all of the men on here making up rubbish as well! If I believed it was just for products I'd be an idiot.

For me it's not a case of wanting it or not wanting it, it's more a case of it doesn't bother me.

We're all adults here, we know when we post on a public forum that what we say could end up anywhere, being used or any purpose.

That's the chance you take when you use the internet 🤷‍♂️

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 01/03/2024 14:41

A certain % of posts were/are fictitious (actually I believe the % is fairly high),
Now HQ can drum up its own business with AI generated topics/replies to stir things up.
Sad really, although I can see how for someone this treasure trove of past replies could be turned into more money.
For me it’s a negative move, I don’t want canned questions canned replies and even phonier op’s.

fabio12 · 01/03/2024 14:52

No one want to feel they are comforting a robot!
