Without trying and eating like shit

I have been a bit stressed but eating far too much

I was a bit overweight before but nothing huge, and not diabetic or signs of diabetes

GP said to weigh myself for another month and come back if still losing weight

Does this sit right with you? I weighed myself before Christmas time (about 12th December) and again yesterday.

I weighed myself because I cleadly was getting thinner and thought it strange since I keep stuffing my face Blush need to sort that out but that's a different thread

I'm later side of mid 20s

Unexplained weight loss always needs to be checked out, so check in with your GP as they say. If you are stressed you may well have been eating less than you think though.

Definitely not

Comfort eater. Pretty sure I am regularly eating beyond 2500+ a day and I am very short

Stress and nervous energy can burn up calories fast.

Bosabosa · 11/01/2024 22:05

Go back to your doctor, good luck. Do you have any other symptoms?

Tilllly · 11/01/2024 22:13

Definitely not normal

Could be stress tho - any other symptoms?

Surely a quick blood test is in order?

Karwomannghia · 11/01/2024 22:14

Stress can make it drop off very quickly.
Any other symptoms?

My dd lost weight for no ‘reason’ in late teens. Dr did stool test - nothing found so prescribed mebeverine to increase appetite and we monitored weight. Nearly 4 years later and at uni she regained and now could do with losing 10lbs!!

lesdeluges · 11/01/2024 22:18

What do you think might be the reason for the weight loss OP?

Are you very active, are you worried about anything, have you any symptoms of anything you haven't had before Christmas?

Not to worry you unnecessarily, but as you have hinted yourself, sudden unexplained weight loss, when it is not due to a change in lifestyle/diet needs to be checked out. Get blood tests from GP.

Piggletta · 11/01/2024 22:20

You need to have blood tests including thyroid function

It took me 8 months to lose 5 stone and I was definitely trying. I think this kind of weight loss over such a short time scale warrants further investigation. I hope you are okay

Papillon23 · 11/01/2024 22:44

I lost two stone over 8 weeks when I was at my illest with IBS. But I couldn't keep anything down - it wasn't unexplained.

If you think about it, a pound of fat is 3500 calories. 3,500*14 = 49,000 calories of deficit you'd need.

Even if you use 2,500 calories a day of energy (significantly more than most sedentary women so making an allowance for nervous energy or whatever) that's still only 75,000 across a month.

So the net of those two would be like what, 800 calories a day? I think you'd have noticed if you were eating that little.

I had dramatic weight loss and it turned out to be the first sign of hypothyroidism. You need a blood test.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 11/01/2024 23:16

You definitely need some bloods checking, I wouldn't leave it another month there could be something really wrong.
