British Bloody Gas

So - under the "old" system I rather quite liked British Gas - I could look at the app and see my daily/monthly usage. I have a monitor and could see if our finances were on top of things.

Then they did a disasterous switchover and that facility disappeared.

I've gone in to check my account - and they lost a years worth of gas data (or maybe they didnt have it) so I chatted to a bot and theyve billed me for a year of gas. I am SO CROSS as I'm someone who previously liked to check every week or so we were on track and they've completely missed they've only been billing me for electriticy and only the gas standing charge.

The bloody chat has taken me over an hour as there is some random trying to help but hasnt a clue and I imagine doing 100 other things.

I'm so cross.

And I cant look over my years usage or meaningfully plan for next year at all. How are they getting away with it!?

Wait until you have a loved one pass away.
BG is a terrible company. Bereavement dept are horrible.

BG are on my list of companies I hope to never deal with again.
Halifax is another one.

Three bean chili..... because they can. Absolutely hopeless customer service. My friend moved into a new build, and they were charging him gas and electric for the previous tenants!!!!! Despite the building being demolished!!!! Absolutely useless

They tried to bill me for years for a house I hadn’t lived in! Even when they came up as the cheapest supplier once I did not go back to them. Never would.
Once on a phone call they fraudulently read out a letter they said I had received and changed parts of it, I had the letter which said something completely different! They are awful.

ThreeBeanChilli · 11/01/2024 17:42

Argggggg so sorry to hear that. It's completely crap. And complete lack of customer service.

I was onto my 3rd customer advisor- I'm convinced they were cutting me off.

Its happened to me before with bt. Can you change energy supplier??? Octopus actually have real people who are very helpful......and its UK based. No automatic chatbot. Real human beans 😏

ThreeBeanChilli · 11/01/2024 17:55

Oooh real people? Tempting.

I was genuinely on a really good locked in rate until November last year. But its gone to the variable rate. Are they all similar now??! I can't even find my annual usage as they've stuffed up.

Wouldn't touch BG with a bargepole! Some years ago,in emergency accommodation after traumatic diverticulitis. Got gas bill and electricity bill, paid,no problem. THEN I got another gas bill, wasn't my gas meter number,so I ignored it. Very quickly, red threatening letters. Rang, explained was told it was for my second gas meter on the property which was my business. In the end, I insisted someone came out, checked the property for the second invisible meter. Obviously, they couldn't find one. Was housed, BG coming to fit CH, didn't turn up on the dates I was given. Then turned up one day, dumped all the rads and pipes outside,in the rain. When it was installed, kitchen rad didn't work, they told me to bleed it, I already had,it was incorrectly fitted. Had a friend with their top gold star supposedly servicing of boiler. They were meant to come in October, she booked multiple days off work, and they failed to turn up. Often it was February before the service was done.

I actually typed "traumatic divorce", (ex H tried to kill me) no idea why the phone decided it was diverticulitis 🤣)

Ilikewinter · 11/01/2024 18:12

Come over to the utopia that is Octopus! Not saying they are perfect but the app is great, and you can speak to someone should you need to 😁

ThreeBeanChilli · 11/01/2024 18:14

Ooooh. I can't work out how to work out if it would cost me more.😳

If you are on the sandard variable rate then I think they rates are the same?? .

MinnySkinge · 29/01/2024 15:12

I built up a £1400+ credit on my account. I did this to ensure I had enough to cover the winter gas and 'leccy usage.

Checked today and had £0 in credit. Called BG and was told that during the switchover to a new system the credit had been "deleted" and a refund was issued. I have received no refund and no cheque in the post.

Really worried as it appeared I had lost £1400 but they were completely blasé about it and told me lots of people had the same issue. I now have to wait another week to see if a cheque arrives in the post, if not, they will investigate and track down my missing £1400!

DiscoBeat · 29/01/2024 15:15

We had a huge problem with them overcharging us over £1000 when we got forced to change to them when our previous supplier went bust and they said we had an outstanding bill (basically we got charged by both suppliers). We still haven't got it back and I don't honestly think we will.
