Would you eat swede and carrot mash 3 days out of date?

It’s been kept in the refrigerator and it looks fine. Do you think it will be ok? Tia💐

How does it smell?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/01/2024 16:41

I'd eat it. It's vegetables, so no meat to go off, so as long as it's heated right through it should be all right.. But I have a cast iron stomach so your mileage may vary.

mindutopia · 11/01/2024 16:42

Unless it smells weird, yes.

SingsongSu · 11/01/2024 16:44

I’d absolutely nuke it in the microwave but should be fine I think.

Mangolover123 · 11/01/2024 16:45

yes

MinervatheGreat · 11/01/2024 16:50

Yes of course.
Do the sniff test.
Cook it, mash and season, add a knob of butter. Taste it.
Tastes ok? Yum.
There you go.

Falkenburg · 11/01/2024 16:51

I never go by dates. Smell
And taste and obvious signs of deterioration such as white fur or water!

CavalierApproach · 11/01/2024 16:54

I’d probably try it, I’m not sure it would be very nice. Sometimes when things are processed the texture can go funny past the date.

Is it purely veg or does it say it’s got anything like butter in it?

sondot · 11/01/2024 16:55

No, but I'm obsessive about dates.

Spaghettieis · 11/01/2024 16:56

Unless it smells or looks off, absolutely - probably up to a week tbh.

mrssinclair · 11/01/2024 17:04

Did you make it and is it just carrot and swede? If so, yes.

If it's a ready made shop bought packet, it probably has milk, cream or butter and won't taste good by now.

Ladybird69 · 11/01/2024 20:49

Sniffed it fine
nukked it fine
tasted it fine
ate it fine !

good so far 😆
thanks

My DH ate manky old mashed turnip and carrot and got food poisoning. Apparently if it's mashed it can harbour all sorts of old bacteria. It smelt off to me though but then I was pregnant at the time.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 11/01/2024 21:11

It's a myth that you can tell something is off by the smell. There are lots of foods that do not smell off but can give you a nasty dose of food poisoning.
