Ear lobe piercing problems

I had a second piercing in each earlobe about 12 years ago. I looked after them exactly as instructed, but they never settled down. They'd be fine for a week, but then swell up and leak pus (sorry!) And were very painful. This went on for about six months and I then decided to just leave the earrings out and let them heal up.

A while ago I accidentally put an earring through one of the second holes. I was really surprised because I assumed that after so many years, they'd healed up! I tried the other side and was able to easily slide an earring in there too. But a few days later, they've swollen up hugely and feel the same as they did when first pierced! I definitely didn't re-pierce them, the earrings slid in easily with no resistance. I don't understand why these holes do not like having earrings in them!! Any ideas how I can make them settle down?

could it be an allergy to the metal in the earrings?
I'd look at the metal in them and maybe try gold/silver earrings, or titanium ones that are used by some piercers now

After many years I buy from a company called Solance. They are not too expensive and ideal for sensitive ears

My original lobe piercings right next to them are fine though, so surely it couldn't be an allergy/sensitivity? The earrings I use are 9ct gold but I might have a go with other metals, just to see.

Most likely either inappropriate jewellery or an angle or trauma issue when they were pierced. Go see a reputable piercer, preferably a UKAPP or APP member for an assessment

I've got lobe piercings plus cartilage. I've never been pierced with anything but implant grade titanium (with professional piercers using needles never guns) as its one of the best metals for ears. I realise you said the lobe piercings next to it have gold in them but clearly your second lobes don't like it. If I was ever to use gold it would be 14k minimum, never silver, or anything plated. Hope it clears up soon.
