New Delhi Indira Ghandi airport claustrophobic lift

Does anyone know if I can transfer to my internal flight without using the lift, which last time I really struggled with. Security is so tight I remember once you enter an area its really hard to get back out.

I don’t know the specific answer to this, but 1) you’re not alone I’d hate this! 2) there must be another way as if there’s a fire the lift can’t be used.
hopefully someone with knowledge of the airport can come and help!
Sometimes at British airports they try to get you to use the lift, at Heathrow I’ve managed to find a secret stair case before! When it seemed the lift was the only way.

@Knitgoodwoman thank you! The lift last time I flew a few years ago was like a freight lift and absolutely rammed, about 20 people plus luggage trolleys. it was really horrendous!

I have never found a lift that cannot be bypassed by using stairs if you are willing to walk far enough.

It's been a 10 years since I was in Delhi airport but I would be astonished if there was absolutely no other option than to use a lift.

@Aaron95 thank you, I agree it would be weird for no other option. I think the problem is I remember last time the check in area is small and once in you can't get out as security is so tight, and in this area there is only a lift.
