If you eat because you are bored/ want to treat yourself

Just something that I'm trying in order to cut back on mindless evening eating, usually chocolate, is to do something more personal care related instead as a treat. So I often sit while watching TV and file my nails, put hand cream on and then some cuticle oil so I then have to sit and not use my hands. I'm also buying a few new cosmetic products and justifying this because I'm not wasting money on bags of malteasers! So just in case this helps anyone else! Any other tips gratefully received

I was always a bored/evening eater until about a year ago when I started experimenting with time restricted eating. I eat breakfast around 10, have a late lunch and make sure I eat my tea before 7. The impact on my evening eating is astonishing, I just have no desire to eat at all any more at that time. Prior to this, I experimented with eating only healthy snacks (veg sticks etc) in front of the TV but I still had the habit and the desire, and would regularly reach for chocolate etc.

So I would definitely recommend this way of eating. My timings are approximate and I don't worry about occasional meals out etc which I'm happy to have later on in the evening.

Might not work/be practical for everyone but it's free, and worth a try!

I also do restricted eating and have a free fasting app. I switch the fasting timer on when I start and I cannot eat while I know that timer is ticking and counting the hours and minutes I'm fasting.

I like buying new candles and wax melts when I'm dieting. And I plan what ( healthyish) takeaway I'm having that weekend as something to work towards at the end of the week. It keeps me on track as it's more sustainable to me. And I go to bed earlier than usual every night with a cup of tea or a light hot chocolate.

I got to bed early and read. I am a dreadful evening chocolate snacker but also quite lazy so once I’m tucked up in bed I can’t be arsed going downstairs for snacks 😂

Brushing my teeth helps me....

I am the same with restricted eating and it has helped with this immensely

Good tips! Thanks. I do a very loose version of restricted eating but don't tend to break my fast until pretty late, so still in the eating window in the earlier part of the evening. I will brush my teeth and stick to a last eating point rather than being so random with it
