Fascinating question for you all: Cheese - grated or sliced?

Which is the way to go?
Does it taste different depending on how it’s prepared?
Or does it all depend on what it is going to used for?

I’ve always been a grated* for everything girl, but have been recently persuaded by how much less mess there is using slices when it comes to sandwiches! A total revelation 😂

So do you have a preference?

NB - it must always *be freshly grated though, not the pre-grated packs you can buy…

Grated for baked potatoes and pasta, sliced for sandwiches.

Grated cheese in a sandwich would spill all over the place.

I've always considered I use less cheese when grating, so less calories!

🤣🤣 my logic too. Plus on baked potato it melts easier, and is easy to mix in with lettuce leaves etc

Grated for melting, sliced for sandwiches, cubed for salad.

Sliced on a sandwich.
Grated on anything that’s going to melt.
Cold grated cheese is an abomination.

Grated for putting in the oven on e.g. pasta bake, pizza, enchiladas.
Grated for jacked potatoes.

Sliced for cheese sandwiches, cheese on toast. Grated when put in a wrap.

Always off a block of cheese so easy to decide on the day what form it should take.

I’m too lazy to grate. I find that shaving the cheese with the veg peeler gives me thin slices that melt well. Also good for crackers for dc when grated cheese would be a bit messy.

NachosAndCheese · 11/01/2024 10:43

I always buy the pre grated bags, I can’t be bothered to grate cheese anymore and they’re cheap enough.

Sliced for sandwiches else it falls out. Grated for baked potatoes, pasta etc.

Grated for everything, particularly sandwiches. Slices are very claggy when chewing.
