Moving to Greater London - Secondary school admissions

I know this is all very much ahead of time, but here we go. Our DS will start primary school this year. We live in the West Country but have always planned to move to London once the eldest finishes sixth form (in 5 years), by then our DS will be finishing Y4.

We then thought that maybe we should wait and he should finish his primary school education where we currently live, but it's my understanding that we can't apply for a secondary school place until we live in the catchment area.

So, am I right to think that it's best if we move for his Y5 and Y6?

TIA

Yes, I think that could be a good plan.

There is always lots of churn in and out of London schools, so a new pupil doesn't stand out in the same way that they did back in the sleepy market town where I grew up.

That's my worry, that he'll be lonely for those two years
