BBE and Use by dates

Does anyone know if these dates take into account the leap year or does food just magically last one day longer every 4 years?

They're just best guesses anyway. Short ones will but long ones won't as a day won't make a difference.

Best before refers to food quality e.g. a biscuit eaten 5 months after the best before date might be soft.
Use by is a legal requirement for food safety, generally on meats or pre-prepared fresh food. They will be day specific so would for example say use by the 29th of February.

I'd guess use by will take into account the leap year.

BBE probably doesn't. Although isn't there something about all walkers crisps go out of date on a sunday? So if the 29th is a Sunday, I'd guess it will be the BBE date!

How do the crisps know it's Sunday 😄
