I remember doing thisnas a student to watch american netflix, just had to download a browser extension and pick the country. But cant seem to easily find any sort of equivelant now...

Im going away for work and will be outside of europe, but want to watch something on ITVX while im away... is there a way to do this?

Btw, im aware that this is probably not really allowed, but surely its pretty common and there are ways of doing it??

You need a VPN.

AnxiousPangolin · 11/01/2024 07:22

A VPN?

ChatterMonkey · 11/01/2024 07:23

Can anyone recomend a good vpn to use? Looking online throws out a lot of options, at various price points...

Ideally i would like something free, but still secure... not sure if such a thing exists though haha

You may already have one. Do you have Norton security (antivirus)? It has a built in VPN. I'm sure some of the other security software has similar.

I don’t think there are any good free ones these days though someone else might know better. I use Nord.

DH is into security so we have a vpn for when we're away from home - it's SurfEasy which from a quick check is £5.99 per month

A VPN sends all your internet traffic through a third party somewhere else, so pretty much by their nature you're letting someone else see everything you do online. Some of the paid ones promise super hard that they won't do anything nefarious with this but 🤷🏻 But if you just turn it on to watch the ITV thing, then turn it off again, does it really matter if someone knows you watched Vera?

The two ‘biggies‘ on the market are Nord VPN and SurfShark. Both cost similar, you get a month free to try them out and then pay less if you commit to a 24-month contract. I’m with Nord, DD is with SurfShark, don’t think there’s much between them. They both offer a huge range of countries and have several different security functions too. I’d avoid any free VPN, no such thing as a free lunch so what data are they collecting on you?
