What did you get your daughter for her 18th birthday present?

Or, what would you get if you had a daughter turning 18?

Or, what sort of thing did you get, if it's too outing to say exactly?

I am thinking probably jewelry, or maybe a timeless bag? She likes bags but I'm not very confident I know her style. I sometimes get it wrong.

She's not really got her finger on the pulse - tends to like what she likes regardless of fashion.

I'm trying to remember what my parents gave me for my 18th. A necklace, I think?

Mainly she wanted money but I also got her a nice pair of earrings in her style. I wanted to surprise her with something and for her to have a little memento.

In 1984 I had a ring. I have 2 boys so gave them money and one driving lessons. The other one is unable to drive due to disability.

Money for interailing - but then Covid happened!

A 3 week stay flying to Paris to California by herself but staying in San Diego with friends of my sister. She loved everything about the trip and will never forget the experience.

I wanted to buy dd1 a lovely piece of jewellery but TBH she’d only have lost it or broken it, and all she really wanted was money for ‘experiences’, i.e. travel. She’d never been into ‘stuff’ anyway - still isn’t many years later!

Choosing a necklace is a nice idea! On my 18th, big sis got me a key pendant to symbolize 'opening doors.' It's special, and I still wear it now. Just a heads-up, a few months back, I picked up one with the message 'Protect.' It's meaningful and doesn't cost a fortune. Thought it might suit your daughter's birthday!

I've had a necklace commissioned for dd, the jeweller used gold from my late nans wedding ring to make it which makes it even more special.

A gold necklace and a Pandora charm.

I got a suitcase. Do not buy your child a suitcase.

An expensive watch which about 1 month later she duly took off in a nightclub to wash her hands and left it by the wash basin never to be seen again !

A posh 'classy' jewellery box with her name engraved on it, hoping it will be something that lasts a lifetime even as jewellery fashions change over the years.

That's a bit more unusual, may I ask what it looked like? Thank you

3 nights in Amsterdam….a party…..and 200 quid ( which she spent on various stuff….no keepsake as such)…..she’s 30 now

We paid for DD to have a city break in Amsterdam with her boyfriend. She definitely wanted a thing to do rather than have. They had a fab time plus she picked a piece of jewellery from my late mums box, she's picked a lovely old cameo ring.

Good question, it was a few years ago now! It was a silver rectangular box (silver plated, not posh solid silver) and I think I bought it in H Samuel or one of the other big high street jewelers. I had it engraved locally in a sole trader shop that does shoe repairs, key cutting, trophy engraving type things.

When I say posh, it was posher than a cheap fake wood plastic one from Argos (not judging as that's where my jewellery box came from 😀).

Thank you, it's sounds lovely and given me food for thought 😊

A weekend break, a handbag she wanted and a piece of jewellery that her dad gave me when she was born.
