What did you get your daughter for her 18th birthday present?

Or, what would you get if you had a daughter turning 18?

Or, what sort of thing did you get, if it's too outing to say exactly?

I am thinking probably jewelry, or maybe a timeless bag? She likes bags but I'm not very confident I know her style. I sometimes get it wrong.

She's not really got her finger on the pulse - tends to like what she likes regardless of fashion.

I'm trying to remember what my parents gave me for my 18th. A necklace, I think?

Future daughter in law got this from us on her 18th.

Honestly, I know it’s not helpful but I think it totally depends on what that individual person is interested in.

For my 18th, my mum took me abroad for 2 nights to do a tour round the location where my favourite film was made. It was amazing.

Mushroomwithaview · 11/01/2024 04:02

No, it's a fair point @MariaVT65 . Perhaps I shouldn't focus on a 'keepsake'.

My sisters and I all got a different piece of jewellery. I got a string of pink pearls, my other sister I think got a one with an emerald and my other sister a sapphire. None of these were “in fashion” but we’ve cherished them, they were antique and from the local antique jeweller. My parents also paid for a party for each of us and we got some money with strict instructions to spend on “fun things”. It probably funded my booze when going out for a few months 🤣 so I’m really pleased now that I got the keepsake as well ☺️.

I do also still have the photos at keepsakes :)

We got our dd1 a MacBook for uni.

WhyThankYou · 11/01/2024 05:04

A heavy gold pendant set with her birthstone and my old car. ( She had passed her test a couple of weeks before )

Cantbelieveit101 · 11/01/2024 05:05

A Tiffany necklace

Thursa · 11/01/2024 05:44

I got a carriage clock. Still have it 42 years later.

sawnotseen · 11/01/2024 05:53

We got her a car. We'd been saving since she was born. Also, I got my engagement ring enlarged and platinum dipped for her (it was yellow gold).
My son also got a car and his dad's wedding ring (Cartier with diamonds).
I got a beautiful antique 18ct gold dress watch and a rose gold charm bracelet with charms that meant a lot.

sawnotseen · 11/01/2024 05:59

I live my charm bracelet. My beloved nan passed away just before my 18th and mum sourced a charm to signify her - woman who lived in a shoe. It's a boot that opens. I love it x

Lifestooshort71 · 11/01/2024 06:54

Diamond studs

CeriB82 · 11/01/2024 06:55

DD1 private plates
DD2 clogau bracelets

Floofydawg · 11/01/2024 07:07

LV bag.

Mydogisagentleman · 11/01/2024 07:10

Intensive driving course.
Tragically, she didn't pass her test

piscofrisco · 11/01/2024 07:13

Tickets to abba Voyage. She said beforehand she didn't want:jewellery, a watch, a bag. Which narrowed the field a bit and we were really struggling. So we got her 6 tickets to abba voyage, she is taking her pals-and so will at least have a nice memory from it-and she was delighted!

Stressedgiraffe · 11/01/2024 07:20

My dds 18th is soon. I've got her a designer bag and watch from a brand she covets. I got diamond studs and a Tiffany necklace. Still got the necklace lost the studs.
What are her interests?

Crochetpenguin · 11/01/2024 07:24

A car. She had passed her test a few days before her 18th. Also a Hotel Chocolat velvetiser which was very popular. She's not really interested in jewellery.

Teenagersscarethelivinshitoutofme · 11/01/2024 07:26

DD was recently 18. She would have hated jewellery, not her thing at all. I gave her a city break for 2.

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 11/01/2024 07:29

I am thinking about my dd’s 18 that is very soon too.

I was thinking cake, money, flowers, meal out, and more money towards a festival in the summer.

Is that rubbish?

ilovebagpuss · 11/01/2024 07:30

Well my DD's is coming up next year. I have got her and I tickets to see the Les Mis anniversary concert thing in Manchester as she is a big fan.
Can't stretch to a car unfortunately but she does like jewellery so I think a vintage ring or pendant something simple like a small diamond or locket that is wearable.
I had a sapphire and diamond ring that I chose for my 18th. It was an auction piece so not big bucks but I love having it as a keepsake.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/01/2024 07:31

Mine isn't at all into jewellery etc.

She asked for some nice flowering plants, so I got her two orchids. They remained in flower for about 6 months and are still alive and periodically flowering (she left them here when she went to uni).

sakes · 11/01/2024 07:32

Something she wants. And something I want to give her- a birthstone pendant - hers is an emerald.

Passingthethyme · 11/01/2024 07:32

I got my neice a necklace with her name on it, she loved it

Globules · 11/01/2024 07:34

I'm hoping to get my daughter Taylor Swift tickets. She has been a fan for years. She was gutted when we didn't even get the opportunity to buy any of the tickets anywhere!

🤞 they come down in price and have a little bit of availability close to the dates.

Else I'm not sure what I'm going to get her.
