What did you get your daughter for her 18th birthday present?

Or, what would you get if you had a daughter turning 18?

Or, what sort of thing did you get, if it's too outing to say exactly?

I am thinking probably jewelry, or maybe a timeless bag? She likes bags but I'm not very confident I know her style. I sometimes get it wrong.

She's not really got her finger on the pulse - tends to like what she likes regardless of fashion.

I'm trying to remember what my parents gave me for my 18th. A necklace, I think?

We bought mine tickets and hotel stay with a friend to see Green Day she still talks about it 15 years later

Fingerscrossed22 · 11/01/2024 20:02

My daughter ( and my other Dc when they turn 18) had a private number plate- it had her initials and year of birth.
She loves it, sonething she can keep a lifetime.
( I don't care of people's opinions on Private plates haha!)

Interrailing ticket for the summer (8 country in 3 weeks!) She loved it.

Her dad (my XH) and I clubbed together to buy her a ring that she chose, which she’s since said is all the more special as it’s from both of us.

I also took her to London for the weekend…did some fancy cocktails bars and restaurants, sky garden, Hamilton and crazy golf with some extended family as she chose not to have a big party.

Somethingsnappy · 11/01/2024 20:35

My children haven't got there yet, but for my 18th, my parents took us all to London for a weekend, saw a show I had chosen, had a meal out, went shopping for some boots I was desperate for. It was lovely.

My DD is 18 in 2 weeks. I was going to get her jewellery but so far I know 3 people have bought her necklaces and bracelets. I got her a Tiffany necklace for her exam results so I don't think she needs any more jewellery.
She got a car when she was 17 along with lessons and her car insurance I feel like we spent more than enough on her 17th birthday so we also have no idea what to buy her.
So far all I really have is make up etc but I can't think of anything else she needs.

We got our daughter 18 gifts and each had a photo of her on her birthday from the day she was born to 17. A mix of sentimental and practical.

So little things like her favourite choc, coffee, mini cocktails, favourite sweets.

Then a vinyl copy of her baby song which she's framed and hung, a notebook which my husband and I have written lots of her favourite meal recipes in it to start her own recipe book (as she covets mine), some silver earrings and then a smart watch which was the only thing she asked for plus an appt for her first tattoo.

She'd hate a really expensive piece of jewellery and would be scared to wear it. She wears the silver earrings every day.

I got my dd a necklace with a Pandora turtle charm (she's studying marine biology) for something to keep, plus Hozier tickets. We did a fancy family meal out and cake and she also celebrated with her friends.

We'd also paid for a trip to NYC with her sixth form which was just before her birthday, and gave her spending money.

OK so perhaps I'm a bit weird. My DS was 18 last year - his dad my ex bought the car, insurance etc so I was a bit like a spare part for the birthday. My son loves a particular product, so I bought him shares in a listed company that deal with that product. Long term thinking for the coming of age. He will earn dividends and can begin to plan for his future. Ps he did get an 18th pressie from me - a new TV so he did OK. Very OK.

zeibesaffron · 11/01/2024 21:24

My DD is 18 soon we have paid for her to go to NY, she will get a necklace/ bracelet from Tiffanys while we are there, she is also having a party.

Gaming PC

peachescariad · 11/01/2024 21:39

Mason Pearson hairbrush and one of those prints with everything that's been meaningful to her for the last 18 years.
Some silver jewellery....she's super picky and individual and tbh she's not worn it yet ....she's not a sheep or crowd follower and absolutely couldn't bear to have anything like Pandora or Tiffany, so tried to pick pieces, which are just absolutely gorgeous and stunning...real individual and different pieces which were particular to her...I think she'll wear them when's she's older.

Mushroomwithaview · 11/01/2024 21:45

What prints of everything meaningful @peachescariad ?

I can't find hers but this is one I did for my son

What did you get your daughter for her 18th birthday present?
Cismyfatarse · 11/01/2024 22:11

I got the earrings I was given for my 18th refurbished and changed to pierced ears for her. Turns out 30 years adds a lot of value so we are rather scared she will actually wear them.

trulyunruly01 · 11/01/2024 22:20

Amongst other things (including a cheap runaround car) I got her a posh personalised suitcase.....then sat back and hoped.
Didn't work, she's still hanging about the house.

trulyunruly01 · 11/01/2024 22:21

I also gave her the gold necklace that her father gave me for my 18th.

AdoraBell · 11/01/2024 22:21

Necklace with diamond pendant.

BinkyBeaufort · 11/01/2024 22:23

A party at the local village hall with a band, and a sapphire ring.

TizerorFizz · 11/01/2024 22:30

Private meal for friends in a restaurant and a Chanel purse. LV bag for other DD. Smaller meal out. They had a Tiffany initial necklace at 13. By 18 they weren’t interested in Tiffany.

TizerorFizz · 11/01/2024 22:32

And my parents gave me a wardrobe I had to paint myself. It was not fun in our house!

upanddowns · 11/01/2024 22:35

I took my daughter shopping and she chose a ring from Pandora. We also bought her some clothes and had something to eat and lots of coffee stops!
