Bed linen - a quick question

What fabric type is likely to be more durable, 100% cotton or a 60% cotton/40% polyester blend ? I'm asking mainly because there's some Habitat stuff reduced in Sainsbury's just now; about £9 for a king size polycotton fitted sheet. Not sure if it's good value and quality or not.

Thankyou.

100% cotton is best for bedding feels nicer

I saw these in Sainsbury's
Poly/ cotton mix is best for durability
I have a dog who sleeps on my bed and that's why I choose it
100% cotton probably feels nicer but harder to care for

Honestly, depends on the actual quality / actual surface feel of the cotton / poly mix and I've had very old cotton sheets that were brilliant and some that were more expensive and were awful. I go for what I prefer to sleep on now.

Poly cotton sheets go bobbly and pc pillowcases can pick up grease from face cream etc. without standing up to a hot wash.
Its fine for duvet covers but not for high wear IMO.

I hate poly/cotton for bed linen - it feels really plasticky - and I don’t think it’s that durable as it goes bobbly.

RosemaryDill · 10/01/2024 13:39

Polycotton wears better and creases less.

100% cotton all the way. Preferably bought from charity shops as 50 years ago the quality was so much better.

Thanks all. Looks like opinion is divided.

Polyester in bedding is grim, MIL has it on the bed we sleep in when we visit and it gives me the heebiejeebies. Sweaty plastic grimness. Cotton or linen for me.

Still a little gutted the Habitat I used to lust after when I was 10 is long gone. They had gorgeous cotton bedding.

Yes!! Hard to come by but fantastic quality!

I used to be in the 100% cotton brigade until I realised that my favourite sheets that I’d had for years were poly cotton..

Polycotton dries a lot quicker too.

I agree about Habitat! It’s really sad what happened with them.
