An equivalent of an iPod touch

Hi
My DD is turning 9 and what we wanted to get her was an iPod touch so that she can listen to music and email her friends. I’m often at hospital appointments and she likes to email me whilst I’m there too!
she has a tablet already but we wanted to get her a device that she could easily download music to and listen to. We decided on an iPod touch. Until we found that they don’t make them anymore.
is a second hand one worth it? Will it still work properly?
is there an alternative to an iPod touch?
we don’t think she is old enough for a phone yet.

thank you x

Are you able to get one from a refurbishing site?

Well, why not just get her an old iPod touch from CEX or whatever?

How much emailing does a 9year old even do??

Getthethrowonthesofa · 10/01/2024 09:36

Bit surprised by the emailing thing, are you sure that’s what they do and not message?

Igglepiggleandhisboat · 10/01/2024 09:54

The emailing is because we don’t want her texting. Her tablet is set up so she can only email pre set email addresses which are me, her dad, her adult sister and two friends

Just get her a phone but don't put a SIM card in it.

For a while I kept an old iPhone (it was past being able to get OS updates) with no sim to use as an iPod.

It's basically an old iPhone you are looking for.

That said, she is 9 so perhaps a speaker in her room would do the job?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/01/2024 10:34

Couldn't she listen to music on her tablet?

Or just use a phone without a SIM card.

No. No other friends currently have a phone

At that age mine had iPod touches from CEX, they used iMessage with their friends.
