When does dehydration need iv fluids?

I have what I think is flu, but also am being sick with it, even sips ain't working, it's been over 48 hours since I last kept anything down and have a high temperature too. I'm also dizzy, lips are cracking, peeling and blood pressure is low (have own machine) when am I at risk of needing iv fluids?

are you urinating?

sofiaj187 · 10/01/2024 08:05

I haven't since yesterday early evening.

You need to seek medical advice so that you can be assessed. I would suggest 111.

plumberdrain · 10/01/2024 08:06

so you haven’t overnight. That’s not too bad

what colour was it?

Shopper727 · 10/01/2024 08:08

Could you try 5mls of sugary (add sugar) diluting juice every 5minutes tiny amounts until you get seen by a dr sounds horrible - I find when I’m not well slushy drinks help for some reason. Hope you’re on the mend soon

sofiaj187 · 10/01/2024 08:15

It was dark yellow

Get dioralyte and call 111 to assess

mrsbyers · 10/01/2024 08:18

If you can manage any fluids small sips of double strength diahoralite are best , avoid plain water. If that’s not possible at all then I would call 111 and arrange IV fluids

pickledandpuzzled · 10/01/2024 08:19

Ice lollies work well for us. Could you make juice ice cubes?

sofiaj187 · 10/01/2024 09:15

Thanks all, I'm getting pulled in circles, 111 said ring gp, gp has no more appointments so said ring 111, literally in circles here

If you're an otherwise healthy adult, you won't need IV fluids yet. Just keep tiny sips every half hour.

Wowzel · 10/01/2024 10:47

What are your blood pressure and pulse?

Auntieobem · 10/01/2024 10:49

As pps have said, regular small sips of water.

sofiaj187 · 10/01/2024 11:35

I do have a heart condition so have to be a little careful

When i had fluids they did a dip stick test, think ketones show up when you need IV. Id call GP to test it.

pickledandpuzzled · 10/01/2024 11:38

I was told years ago that some fluid stays down even if you feel as though it isn’t. So regular sips, ice cubes, juice, lemonade, and some will be staying down despite the sickness.
keep an eye on urine.

I think given this information I would ring 111 again and say you are unable to see the GP and have now not urinated in 20 hours or so.

I wouldn't take any risks with a heart condition

olderbutwiser · 10/01/2024 12:27

how high temperature and how low blood pressure? pulse?

Andherewegoagain24 · 10/01/2024 12:59

In that case definitely ring 111
