Your favourite thing about winter?

I am feeling a bit glum this January. So I wanted to ask:

What is your favourite thing about winter?

Mine would be a steak pie and mash, while wearing my fleece trousers.

@Perfectlystill I’m in the US. Winter has been very mild until now but real winter arrives on Monday. Thankfully it’s mid January, so it shouldn’t be more than 6 weeks for the extreme cold. I didn’t realize how balmy UK winters were till I moved here!

Winter is my favourite season.

Snow
Bobble hats / beanies
Chunky jumpers
Uggs
Supima vests under clothes - love the softness
Getting into the warm from the cold
Frosty dog walks
dark evenings and the winter stars

I think I have a weird anti-SAD because summer is miserable for me. Give me year round winter and id be thrilled.

Winter food (stews, dumplings with everything). Committing to hibernation and not leaving the house for days if I can help it.

Every second I have to be outside in the winter is hateful though, so the real answer is the end of it.

The only good thing about winter is that there are fewer flies, spiders, ticks and mosquitoes around.

The Masters Snooker Tournament.
Fewer insects and spiders.
The feeling I get knowing I don't have to leave the house, now I've retired.

But above all, when Spring arrives.

Ah I used to hate winter and counted down the days until spring, then realised what a waste of life that was. Now I make sure I get outside every day, whilst it’s light, and just appreciate nature. I take more notice of any plants, nature, wildlife. I love when the snowdrops comes up and I have some daffodils poking through. I can’t wait until they flower, which should be in a couple of weeks here. I love the sunny but cold crisp days. Especially walking on the beach at low tide, it’s amazing in the winter. I also love getting home from a cold winters walk, making a hot chocolate for the kids and watching a film without feeling guilty/ like we should be outside.

North Americans (where there is proper winter) do it well. I think in Britain we kind of expect it to be spring just after Christmas. It's not even Lent yet. I sometimes feel despairing in the middle of February, when there's still a long way to go before spring arrives.

Christmas
Winter comfort food

Blankets.

Don't feel the need to be 'doing something'

I don't like closing the blinds though at 4pm when it gets dark because I have this fear of people looking in and watching me...as other posters have admitted they do! I am OTT about crime and its so annoying that I am paranoid about having lights on in the house and blinds open
