Just before Christmas my car had a small engine fire. I had been driving it about 20 minutes earlier with no issues. I came out of my mums with the kids, tried to start it and then a passerby started shouting at me to get out of the car because it was smoking. The fire started when the fire brigade popped the bonnet.
The car was recovered by the insurance company, I was told last Wednesday that they would be in a position to settle on Thursday. I phoned on Thursday and they told me they wanted the car inspected for the cause. I'm fully comp but it turns out that there is a clever clause that says they won't pay out for any loss of damage as a result of a mechanical or electrical failure. At this point they believe the fuel pipe was leaking and that's the cause. I got the car in May and it had just had MOT. I had it serviced immediately and have kept it in good order since. The car is due to be inspected in the next couple of days, the courtesy car is 7 days only (I got this last friday).
What happens now? Will they refuse to pay out? I will still have to oay the remainder of the policy which is 10 months 😠I just cannot afford to lose so much money. I am
still paying off the car too.
