How do you spend your single evenings?

Recently single and I'm currently loving living on my own. Re-watching Sex and the City and just emptied my cupboards. I also have a Pizza on the way.

What do you do in the evenings to keep your mind at bay? How do you learn to love your own company.

Watch series I want on tv and when I want. Go to the gym. Read. Have a bath a a time I want. Walk the dog. Sometimes go shopping in the evening cos I can. To be honest not massively different to being in a decent relationship.

LetMeDream · 09/01/2024 17:49

I am comfortable with my own company.
I read, listen to music, podcasts. I have lots of interests and hobbies. Gardening being my favourite one. Also walking. My pets keep me busy also.
I am currently redecorating my house, that takes a lot of time, along with browsing for ideas and trying to find what l want and how to do it.
Finding a partner is the least of my priorities, l like the way l live too much to be bothered to start even looking. I prefer to spend my time and money on other things.

Watching TV and going to the supermarket like most people, single or not.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 09/01/2024 17:51

Reading. Crocheting. Watching TV. Boards Games.

But I've got teens so they don't go to bed early so I'm not always on my own.

Akire · 09/01/2024 17:52

I wouldn’t say I love my own company, I don’t hate it either. It’s just my life. You can still do everything a couple can there is no restrictions.

If you want keep busy to stop yourself crying and being miserable over the break up that’s a different matter and probable need to be making plan for family and friends to help you get over the road bump.

GaroTheMushroom · 09/01/2024 17:52

Never understand why it’s different to being in a relationship unless it was controlling ? Could you not watch tv or order pizza in a relationship

TheLurpackYears · 09/01/2024 17:53

Putting the kids to bed then dropping down with exhaustion.

CharlottePimpernel · 09/01/2024 17:53

I knit, I watch horror films, sometimes I'll bake or do a jigsaw. Have a long bath with a book.
Peaceful evenings with only what I want to watch on the telly, and nobody talking to me, are some of the best bits about being single.

I have a hot bath most nights, tonight I’m going to have a face mask/eye mask while I’m in there and use some of my new body lotion afterwards

I started a journal this month and tonight after I’ve eaten I plan to do a YouTube yoga video - it’s been a shit year and I’m really interested in somatic exercises for stress/trauma relief. I’ve found a woman o. YouTube who teaches somatic yoga so I’m going to give it a try.

I try and read a bit before bed rather than scroll on my phone.

As the nights get lighter I’ll go out for walks.

It took a while but I really love my own company.

Iheartmysmart · 09/01/2024 17:56

I’ve just logged off from work so will do a quick Spanish lesson in a minute then make myself poached eggs on toast for dinner.

Will probably find something random to watch for a while later before having a shower and heading to bed to listen to my audio book.

I'm loving Colin from Accounts! My teens never want to be downstairs so sometimes feel like I'm on my own!

MrsShortbread · 09/01/2024 18:06

I tend to have a hot bath then sit in front of the fire with music on. To not have screens on at all or not be needed by anyone for an evening is bliss after decades of work and parental responsibility!

therealcookiemonster · 09/01/2024 18:08

I read a lot. cook something nice most evenings (unless I am working or busy with exams). tbh I love chilling on my own, always have... I travel alone a lot too (and prefer it as i can set my own pace)... and go out for dinner/movies/concerts by myself. just a question of getting used to it

I love my own company.. l am nearly a pensioner though and see my family often.
My passion is reading.. but l love sewing and knitting.. and l sometimes go for a swim early evening..( only exercise l can physically do).
I like to plan my evening meal.. l love my food.. tonight it's smoked haddock.. new potatoes. Frozen peas and roasted baby tomatoes.. nothing fancy.
I will watch some telly and do some knitting ( I'm knitting a scarf exactly like the one Sarah Lancashire wore in Happy Valley.( Same yarn). I do have a cat and he will lay with me and come to me for the occasional neck and ear tickle.

Serencwtch · 09/01/2024 19:01

Oh I loved that scarf! Please post a picture when it’s finished 😊

I'm not single but DH works away, sometimes for months at a time.
I have caran dachs pencils, pain sketchbooks and colouring books for drawing and doodling. I use the Kindle app on my phone for reading and am currently enjoying The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires. I like to try and make one new dessert a month, this week I'm going for strawberry tiramisu. I like to go for walks with my plant identification app. Coffee or tea by myself with a sudoku, even Morrisons cafe. I'm not especially religious but I absolutely adore English churches, the most peaceful of places, and will often drop in. Considering attending a local Buddhist centre to try their meditation sessions.

Bigbumsntums · 09/01/2024 20:16

Plain not pain🙄. Sorry please ignore any mistakes, I will never truly get the hang of my phones keyboard.

blackheartsgirl · 09/01/2024 22:43

I’m widowed so it’s maybe a bit different for me.

However I do what most on this thread do, I crochet, watch box sets, take the dogs out, spend time with my teens, older kids and grandchildren. I do sometimes do things like the cinema, local theatre etc on my own but I have noticed that is a couple thing and it does remind me of my late dh and it makes me sad. I walk by myself though and visit friends a lot. I like that

SoRainbowRhythms · 09/01/2024 22:45

Following with interest as I'm unexpectedly alone and not entirely comfortable with my own company.

blackheartsgirl · 09/01/2024 22:54

It’s can be hard to find the motivation to do stuff in your own for whatever reason you find yourself single. Yes you can still do all this if you’re in a good relationship… I was.. and we did stuff together and on our own. But there was always someone there to come home too or someone at th other end of the sofa to talk to about our trips out or someone to share the experience.

it can be incredibly lonely to do stuff on your own when all around you are couples out together or sharing their experiences.

im more used to it now after 3 years but I still have my moments
