What's going on in my nose?

Christmas Eve, I started having, what I can only describe as, a really sticky nose. When I blow my nose or clean my nostrils, it's usually a little runny, snotty in a very mild way, usually quite clear. Since Christmas Eve, it's been incredibly sticky, often sticking hard to the inner septum of my nose.

It's been so yucky and sticky that it's caused sores in that area of both nostrils and therefore blowing it when it's built up has caused the stickyness to rip off a layer of my septum.

So, lots of nosebleeds and lots of soreness. Each open sore dries to
a taught surface making even small movements hideously painful.

Overnight, I get a build up of yucky red that I have to gently remove and the cycle starts all over again!

Help!!

I promise I'm not a snot troll. I've hesistated about posting this for days because I'm expecting to see it start clearing up but it's not. I've tried Vaseline up my nose just once to soften the taughtness but it felt even more uncomfortable.

I’ve had nose bleeds since I was ill before Xmas. I wonder if it’s a thing 🤔

Mumaway · 08/01/2024 21:22

Steam inhalation, lots of fluids to drink and vaseline regularly.

Probably a minor nostril infection. I am very snotty and have occasionally had this. Try some saline spray?

LoreleiG · 08/01/2024 21:25

Maybe ask a pharmacist though.

teddyba · 08/01/2024 21:36

I had this. It's an infection. I called the GP and got an antibiotic cream and it cleared up. I don't think it will clear up without proper treatment.

Call your doctor or go to the pharmacy. It's quite unpleasant.

When my ds had Covid last year his nose looked like he had leprosy... Red skin. Bits hanging off. Scabs all inside..

imnottoofussed · 08/01/2024 21:42

Mine was like this before Christmas too. I ended up getting fucidin cream and that cleared it up

Newbalancebeam · 08/01/2024 21:42

Probably triggered by having heating on and lots of dry air. Second the saline spray suggestion.

Haggisfish3 · 08/01/2024 21:44

I second a skin infection in the nose-usually staphylococcus. Needs an antibiotic cream.

Mischance · 08/01/2024 21:47

Ask GP for some Naseptin - works like a dream.

Using tepid salt water, soak some cotton wool and dab your nose on the affected area, even up the nostrils. Pat dry with some paper towel and apply sudocrem or germaline. Repeat 2-3 times a day.

WelshMoth · 08/01/2024 21:52

Thanks everyone.I'll contact my GP in the morning. It's so painful and the cycle is never ending!

Will do this too.

It might be impetigo in your nose. DD had it. Need antibiotics

unsync · 08/01/2024 22:23

Get some Sterimar nasal spray from the chemist. Was told to use this by ENT consultant to keep nose moisturised inside. It's also good for clearing sinuses.

Alicewinn · 08/01/2024 22:31

Don’t suppose you had a long flight anywhere? This happened to me after a flight to India, I shoved almond oil up my nostrils & it was instantly fine - sorry 🤮

Flamango · 08/01/2024 22:34

Also sorry to be an annoying cliche, but you’re not pregnant are you? One of my first symptoms was weird nose.

2024newme · 09/01/2024 08:00

I get similar with allergies, it can become painful mini cuts inside the nose if not treated and as you describe a cycle. I’d recommend the doctor has a look but at least ask them for neseptin cream while you wait for an appointment. I do a gentle wash with cooled boiled water and a cotton bud, then use a clean cotton bud to apply neseptin cream, it’s good stuff.

WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo · 09/01/2024 08:03

I'd be worried that was thrush. I know you can get in your throat and your mouth, especially if you use a steroid inhaler.

DollyD83 · 04/12/2024 16:26

Did this ever go? Going through the same

WelshMoth · 05/12/2024 23:17

It did - pretty rapidly once I'd seen the GP. Think they gave me fucidin.

Hideous though. It won't go without treatment. Hope you're ok OP!

Yuk. I've got something similar right now. My nose is so sore and I have yellow crusty sores and weeping. What did the GP say it was?
