Birthday presents for a 12 year old girl?

Hello, my niece is turning 12 this month and I've never struggled to buy for her before because she loves clothes and always seemed to like what I pick. But she's just started secondary school this year and as my son is only a toddler, I've never felt more disconnected from what teenagers are into these days!

Does anyone with a current 12/13 year old know what kinds of things are cool...? Where do they shop, what accessories are on trend? I wouldn't buy her an expensive gadget as her parents handle what she is and isn't allowed. Just want something she doesn't look at and think 'WTF'?!

She's pretty girly but also loves playing sport and is a fanatical swimmer. Any ideas would be fab!

Hi, my DD turned 13 on Christmas day!! 🤣. (Yeah I know, great timing.) My DD gave me ideas on what to buy her. How about some nice bedding and matching blanket/posh pillow? Diary? Earphones? Maybe a voucher for decathlon or sport shop to buy herself some swimming gear?? Hope you find the ideal gift 🎁 😊

Things that were a hit with my young teen this Christmas have included:

  • hooded blanket
  • Posca pens
  • lava lamp
  • eyeshadow palette
  • giant Squishmalllow
  • money and a shopping day out to spend it

I gave my 13 year old neice the Ariana Grande perfume cracker which has 3 mini perfumes in it, that went down well. I paired it with fancy lip balms which she liked too.

Oh second Stanley cup or oversized hoodie

This is so great, thank you. I’d never even heard of a Stanley cup! It’s impossible to keep up with what’s cool or not cool when you’re out of the teenage loop.

I know she got a massive squishmallow from the grandparents for Christmas and her mum was complaining there was no space left in her room. But I think some combination of a cup, oversized hoodie or fun beauty thing won’t be a total disaster!
