Following recommendations from on here I’ve just read the whole Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey over the Christmas holidays, and need to talk about my latest obsession!

has anyone else read them all? Happy to try and discuss without spoilers if people haven’t. They are basically brilliant police procedurals with a lot of character-driven background stuff - there are 10 main books, plus a few shorter spin offs set in the same world. The next one is out in March and I’d like to fill the gap with chat if possible!

Thoughts/predictions from me: Hoping beyond hope that the relationship stuff is resolved at least a bit in the next one, but predict more angst before it is. It might sort of ‘end’ the series - but then Casey could continue a series of the spin offs instead.

I had a question on chronology if anyone has read them all- wondering whether The Outsider (Rob spin off) is supposed to come before or after The Close? I think it matters for the relationship arc, and I can’t decide!

I have just finished re-reading the whole series again. I can't wait to see what happens with Maeve and Josh! The only other pair I feel the same about is Strike and Robin!

@Binglebong thanks for recommending Missing You - I’m on episode 3 and agree it has some of the same vibe! Also looking forward to the next Strike, which I think is coming out in the autumn?

So glad this thread is still going. Slowly getting through a re-read in advance of April but only on TSYK at the moment. More of Maeve's dislike of Derwent has just crumbled away 😁.

Is anyone else ridiculously excited for the short story on Friday? I just realised it's called Outside the Door - and we know it's from ASITF - so I wonder will it focus on a conversation between Josh and Liv when he arrived at the police station. I hope it covers the conference call too though.

It depends where you are located. If you're in the US as I am then the book is not available to preorder yet - and therefore no short story.

Yep, looking forward to the short story on Friday. I am doing my homework by rereading ASITF. Part of me is slightly tortured by knowing some people have read book 12 in advance but I’m mostly glad to have a book to look forward to in April! (And delighted to know there will be another book in the series!)

Oh that's a good idea @WendyWebersdrugget. In theory I was going to try to work out when the short story kicks in and then re-read the relevant bit first. But I probably won't be able to restrain myself 😂.

I'm so looking forward to April too - I know I will devour it though and then there will be an emptiness - especially as the next book is a standalone 😬.
