Hello,

Just wanted some advice really about whether I should be concerned or not. I think I'm a bit more on the lookout as my 6 year old is autistic.

I've noticed recently that my 3 year old will repeat a lot of what her brother says. At first I thought she was just using it to answer when she didn't know what to say, but I've noticed lately that it almost seems involuntary. For example she will already be talking to me about something else then her brother will come and say something and she will repeat that before continuing her sentence.

Is this a normal part of speech development or should I keep a close eye?

Thanks in advance!

It’s a normal part of speech development but typically happens earlier. My son was very Echolalic but he would repeat the end of words - ords like that-at.

he’s autistic and was very slow to speak fluently. you can’t shut him up now and he’s ten.

Sounds normal to me.
