Coil insertion after c section

Has anybody asked for this to be done? I didn't know it was possible until I read something online earlier where another lady said she had one fitted after her planned section. I'm leaning towards the copper coil as I have heard positive experiences from others, so I suppose it makes sense to get one fitted at the same time.

Are they likely to say yes if I ask?

Yea. I work in theatres and lots of ladies get the coil fitted after an elective section. Few get sterilised during too. They’ll say yes x

@KEG05 Is it the midwife I need to ask about this? Also, out of interest do many women go for the copper coil over the mirena?

I think you ask the midwife but it’s at the appointment with the consultant where they’ll note down your preferences on this. They asked me so many times during my second section this year

Yeah you can speak to the midwife but consultant will probably ask you at your appt and then they’ll likely ask you again on the day but you can say. They just add it to the consent form. I think it’s probably more common for mirena but copper coil still fitted regularly.

I had it done after my csection with my ds. I told the midwife who marked it on my notes. I was high risk so saw a consultant several times through the pregnancy and he was aware I was having it done.

I’ve had both, and personally for me so far, I prefer Mirena. The copper coil did the job also but my periods were painful and much heavier than when I’m not on contraception.
