OMG. Packing cubes

I'm 60. Spent 35 years in a high pressure career which took me around the world. Spent most of my professional life living out of a suitcase.

Getting ready for a really special trip to celebrate combined 60th and retirement and decided, after reading up on mumsnet, to try packing cubes.

OMG. Where have these been all my life. Beyond fabulous. I'm completely blown away. Sorry. Just had to share.

We use colour coded ones. Each member of my family has their own colour, when we go away we can pack each suitcase with everyone’s and the other side just take colours out

Oh wow I didn't know these were a thing. My wife loves a bag in a bag system. Will be so easy. And much more accessible with disabilities. Thanks for posting!

Anyone got a pic of their own? I'm curious about these but i don't get it, why is it better instead of just now sfuff?

What is just now stuff?

You just lift out of suitcase and plonk in the drawer when you get to destination . Perfect for multi stop trips too! I keep my swimsuit one packed all year.

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 11/01/2024 21:18

These packing cubes are bigger than my luggage 🤣

I'm intrigued by the compression cubes particularly. Is there a specific one people would recommend? So many on Amazon!

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 28/01/2024 22:58

I'm still wondering which ones to get for my family of 3. There's so many to choose from!

KeeeeeepDancing · 29/01/2024 03:50

I prefer light coloured cubes, you can see what's in them easier. A different colours are handy to know whose stuff is whos.
Cheaper ones have crap zips.
Should really be called packing cuboids lol

BrutusMcDogface · 29/01/2024 09:20

For a family of six they are wonderful. Each person has a different colour and I just throw each kid their own cubes to pop into drawers. No unpacking required!

These look amazing and I have just ordered some. Very helpful for preventing Suitcase Soup when 8 year old DD is looking for something at the very bottom of her case.

Here’s another reason to use packing cubes. I am 69 and arthritic and a widow. My house has stairs. I pack upstairs in bedroom in packing cubes. Much easier and safer for me to bring cubes downstairs and then put in the suitcase in the downstairs hallway. I would not be strong/stable enough to navigate stairs with a suitcase but hit on this solution.

@Isthisblocked That is a brilliant idea. I've just read your post out to DH who says that you have instantly become his favourite person and that we are definitely going to do that when packing for our holiday in the summer. We live in a little cottage with quite steep and narrow stairs and it is always a bit precarious (to say the least) navigating full staircases down them.

We're fairly recent converts to packing cubes but they were invaluable when we went away last September for a month. We were on a cruise and they were great as we could stack them on shelves (we had our own cubes in different colours to differentiate) which really maximised the limited storage space.

We've also got a pop up laundry basket which folds flat which slides in the pocket of the case.

Gettingbysomehow · 29/01/2024 13:18

Wow what a fantastic idea. I had to look it up. Would be fab for camping too.

The best ones are the ones that are double sided with one side "smell proof" for used clothes. Worst are the ones with nets or the cheap zips or weird sizes.

They're also great for just emptying into washing machine when you get home - no more "unpacking suitcases"

Holdingforth · 29/01/2024 20:08

Any links to any good ones please?

DillDanding · 29/01/2024 20:11

My mil bought me some as a gift, but I’ve never seen the point of them?

DuesToTheDirt · 29/01/2024 20:18
