Pregnant - how to get a Covid jab?

I am 9 weeks pregnant, had my first midwife appointment and she told me to get a flu jab and a covid jab. Paid for flu jab earlier in the year already, can't for the life of me work out how to get a covid jab.

I have:
Been on the NHS website - says you can't book through there have to be invited by HCP
Called 119 - just a recorded message saying HCP will invite you
Called GP and asked to be invited, they didn't even seem to think I was entitled to it as "it's not the same as the flu jab"

Has anyone booked a Covid jab when pregnant recently? How?

Help!

You definitely are entitled to it. I only got the flu jab but when I went for that they offered the covid one too

Overthebow · 05/01/2024 14:59

I got mine through my gp, they sent me an invite for both flu and covid jabs and I had both at the same time.

Isitisit · 05/01/2024 15:01

I had mine but I think the programme is now finished for this year. I think you had to have it by mid-December (can’t remember exact date but was sent a message saying I had to book it by then).

Our pharmacy have walk in appts available for anyone eligible. Maybe see if yours has anything similar?

WoodsTreesWhere · 05/01/2024 15:12

Thank you all!

I think I will go to a pharmacy but I wondered if I needed some sort of proof to get it?

This feels like a bit of a gap in organisation if I’m honest.

Hi I booked my appointment on the nhs app and pharmacy didn’t ask for any proof of pregnancy but did want nhs number

I was invited by the gp via the midwife. Can you enquire with your gp?

booktokbear · 05/01/2024 15:16

Which health authority are you in? The process usually varies. Then maybe one of us could find the info for you.

I called them and they said they hadn’t done any Covid jabs for two years.

Then I said what about over 65s etc and they said oh yeah but they’re eligible, and I said so am I, I’m pregnant (had already said that was reason for calling).

They didn’t seem to think you got Covid jabs in the same way as flu when pregnant so maybe they don’t deal with it in my area?

Thank you for suggesting this, I’m Lambeth in London.

Thank you - I found that list but thought they’d ask for some sort of proof that I’m eligible?

I’ve had extra Covid jabs due to immune issues. I’ve pretty much always gone to the walk ins, who I’ve found to be keen to give out vaccinations. I would take some documentation relating to your pregnancy if you have any eg maternity exemption certificate, invite to midwife booking appointment / scans, just to cover your bases - good luck! X

booktokbear · 05/01/2024 15:52

Yea I imagine they still want as many people as possible to get the vaccine so won’t be too strict. I’ve never had to prove my “extremely vulnerable” status when going to the docs for flux/covid jobs so hopefully it’ll be fine x

WoodsTreesWhere · 05/01/2024 15:52

Thank you very much all - really appreciate it.

Ring them and ask??

janfebmarchapril · 05/01/2024 15:58

You'll get a text from your GP at some point- I did

janfebmarchapril · 05/01/2024 15:59

Ooh sorry just seen deadlines was mid dec. that seems ridiculous you're deff entitled to it

graceinc22 · 05/01/2024 16:16

my understanding is that the deadline is 31 jan, even though the programme is winding down before then - you can search on the nhs website to find a walk in centre open on the day.

HNY2024 · 05/01/2024 16:21

Our walk in centre for Covid closed for the year before Xmas. You can still get flu jabs at pharmacies but not Covid. I'm not sure how you could access one now.
