Hair is out of control

My DD is 18 months old and her hair is so long it rests just below her shoulders.

It's out of control most days, as for some reason it grows forward straight over her little face. Poor thing looks like cousin IT unless I've tied the front back. The problem I have is that its so soft and silky lots of clips and bobbles just slide right out of it, and it's not quite long enough for one pony tail only pigtails or half up.

I do use butterfly clips, or little elastics but I also don't want to damage her hairline.

Any tips on what to do or hairstyles which could be good? Should I maybe be using a hair product to hold it back off her face a little?

What about little soft hair bands?
