Why can't I block this email sender?

Recently I keep getting spammed with emails with the following: McAfee virus protection, get your dream body, initiate a personal injury claim etc, these are not going into my junk folder, so for the last few days I've been hitting the report button and deleting, but I know opening them makes it worse.

So, I've been trying to delete without reading. This morning I've added the block button to my bar at the top and when I try to block them, the block button is greyed out. There also isn't a senders email adress.

Does anyone know how I can stop this please?

you can't.
even if you were to block one, the spammers use a different address each time. or spoof the address to appear empty.
one thing that slightly helps is moving them all to the spam folder. the system is set up to learn and automatically move messages that follow the sane spam pattern. then go through spam folder to move any that are not spam before deleting.

Ok thank you.

The email addresses may well be slightly different.

[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]

And your brain will read it as the same but have the slight differences.

There aren't any email addresses visible.

I was going to click on th email then click block, individually until they stop. But the block button isn't working on them and there is no sender email address visible.

I've no idea about the block button, but I've been absolutely flooded with junk emails in my inbox for the past week or so too. Mostly McAfee too and other random crap. I just keep moving them to my junk folder and hope that it gets picked up on. I wondered if it was some sort of security breach it's very odd. Not long ago I had the same problem with junk from Temu but that seems to have stopped now.

What PP have said about spammers using different addresses each time is true. So rather than block them you can mark them as Spam/Junk and then whatever spam filter your email system uses may learn to direct them straight into your spam/junk folder.

Regarding the Block button... how that works will depend on what email program you are using or which website you are using to access your email.

Are you sure it is not an advert? I started getting this and apparently its ads and you can get rid of them for a yearly fee, but I am not paying that I just keep deleting them now, very annoying

fedupandstuck · 05/01/2024 11:35

One thing you could try in Outlook is to go to the Junk Email Options and set the level of junk email protection to High if it's not already.

YapYap2023 · 05/01/2024 12:47

No, its not an add, there are too many of these one after the other.

Hopefully it will stop soon, as per a PP, this has been going on for about an week and this happened previously too and then stopped.

Thanks @fedupandstuck I'll check that, but I suspect it might be an Outlook issue becuase it happened before, and to quite a few people.

Yes, it will be an Outlook issue, in that it isn't particularly good at spotting spam and filtering it. Setting the junk filter to High will mean that more emails are identified as spam and filtered. Some that aren't spam may be wrongly identified too, although you can then add them to your safe list once you spot them.
