Grrr anyone still up and want a rant?

My rant is that as we didn't have bins collected for over a fortnight during Xmas period. Not a problem in itself but it was attracting fruit flies.

So I got the bins out a few days before they were due to be collected, made sure kitchen was pristine etc.

Then the little sods started going for my orange juice, lemon, honey and hot water in the sitting room. I made a decoy cup for them. I've just accidentally knocked decoy cup over so I'll have to clean up a fruit flies graveyard and sticky liquid tomorrow, too tired to do it right now!

Dc has coughed every night at 2 30am for the last 4nights.

I've just done the cycle of taking dc in to bed with me, drink, inhaler, calpol, cuddle and then i started coughing too so just cleaned the kitchen while sipping a cuppa so I don't wake the wee soul but now I feel cold.

Dropped my phone in a plate of curry 🍛

Cat yowling outside bedroom and is now noisily purring.

Very irritating
I do think that council rubbish collections are quite a serious issue - most councils have cut them down to the bare minimum and situations like this are the result.

I have covid. Being unable to sleep at night is a recognised symptom of this variant. And all because dh was kind enough to give a lift to a teen friend of ds. Friend coughed the whole bloody way!

Keep a stash of masks in the car. Everyone wears one, coughing or not.

JanglingJack · 05/01/2024 03:44

I'm unusually quite chilled. Well I can't sleep but I'm getting used to that due to disability. I'll get zopiclone when I start hallucinating.

Fruit flies are a nightmare, not usually seen in winter though. Have you a random vegetable or fruit laying undiscovered at the back of a cupboard? I don't even know if they get in or just come in with fruit and veg. I used to try everything - bottle of wine, bit in the bottom so they go in can't get out, vinegar same set up. I found some once in my vinegar bottle that was sealed, with a lid and only had tiny sprinkler hole to get in. The bastards.

The only thing is, is put all fruit and veg away and sealed and blast the place with fly spray. I'm actually just cleaning my pantry at the moment due to rip roaring insomnia.

I hope you are okay @XenoBitch been there, it was my adult son and nobody will tell you anything. I think they just left him there all day, questioned for a couple of hours and released.

Hope all new mums (and not so new) are getting some sleep. I'm giving up now, teen DD will go to her dad's for the weekend and I'll catch up then with the help of a crap novel!

Not really a rant ..except maybe to myself. My sleeping pattern is seriously fucked up and I'm at a loss as to how to deal with it . I was a carer for the most part of the past twenty plus years..first my mum and then my aunt (mums sister ) I,also have my adult son with ASD and comorbid MH problems living with me. My mum died 13 years ago...my aunt 3 years ago at the height of the Covid lockdowns and restrictions. I spent so many nights with my mobile on my pillow...for those occasions where I had,to make mercy dashes in the middle of the night . Now as soon as my head hits the pillow my brain still goes into overdrive and I can't switch off the hypervigilance. Logically I know this is irrational but I simply can't switch this part of my brain off.
There was a.tremendous amount of stress surrounding my aunt's care and heartbreak due to the lockdowns etc. I feel I haven't processed all this but my God where /how to unravel it all I don't know.

Bit of a pity party here. Lost my mum to pancreatic cancer on 7th December and now got a hellish bug.

Dry cough, fever of 38.5⁰, aches, fatigue, headache and just got up to go to the loo and chucked up. Live alone so it's extra miserable.

Don't have any covid tests. Also type 2 diabetic.

mrsclaus1984 · 05/01/2024 04:28

4:20am and I’ve long woken up to some inconsiderate neighbour letting their dog bark outside at this ungodly hour 😩

AliceA2021 · 05/01/2024 04:33

I never get fruit flies in the winter. Must be on account of the spiders. Get spiders to sort it. They'll help.

I hear you. I have similar sleeping problems

WhatNextVera · 05/01/2024 04:38

Put some bedlinen on a wash dry cycle earlier - the machine started clunking. Good job I noticed : managed to stop it quickly and retrieve the offending item - a torch of all things!

I dread to think what would have happened if I'd not have noticed so quickly!

I'm very sorry to read of the loss of your Mum. That combined with illness is not a pity party at all.
I hope you feel better soon.

We have one of those neighbours - 2 German Shepherds in a house identical to mine... Referred to as a rabbit hutch! They're 5 houses up (terraced) so god knows how their immediate neighbours cope.

Lovelycupofcoffee · 05/01/2024 05:24

@GlitterBall91 congratulations on your new arrival .

Cheepcheepcheep · 05/01/2024 05:34

Up since 3 worrying - DS is having surgery today. It’s routine but involves a GA and he’s only 19mo so feeling a bit wobbly about it all.

Ah thanks for replying that’s so kind. Still in post op but all seems to have gone well and who knew that 3 hours sleep is ok when you’ve got the adrenaline going!

Hope anyone facing a sleepless night tonight can find some peace, mine won’t be a quality sleep but my brain is at least a bit quieter tonight ❤️

JanglingJack · 05/01/2024 21:35

Ah you're welcome ❤️ yep adrenaline can certainly keep us going through the worrying times.
I'd say try and get a bit of sleep tonight as you may need to look up and lively for a little one in the morning! Fingers crossed xx

FrontalLobotomy · 08/01/2024 01:10

Yes I did 😜

Browniesandcustard · 08/01/2024 01:26

Wide awake here again. Have managed a couple of hours but waiting on an email from my ex and it’s back to work also. Feeling quite sick about the email as I have asked him to do some paperwork that he doesn’t want to do 😔

GlitterBall91 · 05/01/2024 03:30

Got a newborn and haven’t slept more than a few minutes at a time in about 2 weeks

@GlitterBall91 it's crap not getting any sleep, but you definitely have the nicest reason on the thread!!

very envious of your new born sniffs & cuddles!!

DoubleShotEspresso · 08/01/2024 02:05

Still dealing with effects of Covid and just cannot sleep-head feels like it is on fire and I cannot stop coughing. So damn tired and have not had a decent nights' kip since before Christmas which has just blurred past us.
Am MN-ing on sofa as DP is snoring so loudly!

Browniesandcustard · 08/01/2024 02:09

@DoubleShotEspresso oh no, that sounds awful 😔

JingleSnowmanTree · 08/01/2024 02:09

I'm having a bad bout of insomnia anyway, but started to feel like I was going to be sick.

TMI: Been to the loo & feel a bit better, but stomach gurgling away & not happy. Brought sick bowl back to bed with me. (Dedicated bowl for curious minds)

Hope everyone gets some sleep.

for those with problems keeping them awake, I find this helps.

worrying tonight isn't going to help anything. Put it in the 'tomorrow box' & get some sleep to help you with tomorrow xx
