Perfect Prep machine - hot shot

Hi All,

First time mum to a 5 week old who has terrible reflux symptoms. I've been reading online about how the Perfect Prep machine's hot shot isn't actually at the required 70 degree temperature that is required to kill bacteria.

It made me think to test mine. When I tested mine it came up at around 50 degrees.

Has anyone else's baby experienced similar? Did symptoms improve when the prep machine wasn't used? Thinking it's probably best I stick to the traditional way of making bottles

TIA

Could you just boil the kettle, fill bottle with your home made hot shot of a few fl oz and then top up with cold boiled water to the right volume and temperature?

The temp of the water wont make a difference to reflux symptoms, but shaking the bottles to mix the formula / water can make the reflux worse as it introduces air bubbles. We found switching to nuk bottles, plus swirling to mix, plus prescription for infant gaviscon helped DD1.

Having said that, i agree with you that 50c wont be killing the bacteria, which is more risky in terms of making DC ill. I used to periodically test my perfect prep with DD1 and it was always 71c, so maybe also worth contacting Tommee Tippee in case your machine is faulty?

@NoIncomeTaxNoVAT I don't have the receipt for it anymore. Would they still look into it?

What's the threshold for being precrioed Gaviscon? I've spoken to multiple professionals about her reflux but they just fob me off but she really does struggle with it.
