RAC questions!

Fuel leak in car. Rang RAC at 3pm today. They said they will be here at 8. 8 came and went, no updates. Rang RAC to find out what's happening - they said a manager will be in touch in 45 mins, let us know. What shit service!!! So 6.5 hours later, no sign of them.

Does anyone know, if they can't fix the car, how will they get the four of us home, plus our car? We're 70 miles from home.

And we have the 'recover car to homeI' service.

On the three occasions I’ve had to use them the wait times were always quite long. It says in the Terms and Conditions of the policy that they can’t guarantee how quickly they’ll be able to get to you after you’ve reported a breakdown. (I only found this out after reading the T&C’s after the first breakdown I had). We had to get a hotel on one occasion as the car needed to go on a recovery lorry and there was none available until the next morning but the man that came out dropped us at the hotel.

Sorry I should have said there were 5 of us, we had an onward travel thing with them so when the car went on the lorry we got a courtesy car the next morning.

The guy that came out to us came around 10.30pm. I don’t think the recovery lorries do as the man that came out to us said there were none open to get a lorry to us.

Can we book one for the morning? I wonder.

You could call and see? That might be the easier option to save you waiting up. They were very good when we’ve had to use them and super helpful.

I said that we called them nearly an hour ago. They promised a call back within 45 mins. That's come and gone too.

They have texted saying they are now sending a 'trusted partner' - what's that? Someone from a garage?

An update for anyone interested: local garage finally came out at midnight, couldn't repair car, booked tow truck for us from 8-9 today.

It didn't appear.

Rang RAC to chase it and they hasn't even allocated our car to a tow truck. Apparently they're very busy.

I get that, but ffs.

Shit service, shit communication, shit response time.

Will be complaining and cancelling our membership when we get home.

They have now said they will be here by 12...

We had a similar situation. Ended up coming home on the train. Car was brought home 7 days later.
I've now swaped to Green glag on the recommendation of an ex Rac employee

Shit, really? There are no train stations here - in the middle of nowhere.

It was my son. He managed to get collected by a friend who lived locally. The Rac chap said it would be the best way to get home despite the fact we have full recovery on the policy and he and the car should have been taken to their destination. Car was taken to a storage yard and finally returned 7 days later

Hmm, we'll just spoken to tow truck driver and he should be here within 15 mins. What a palaver. 24 hours to be collected!!
