We last went a few years ago and he loved the bus/boat tour, dungeons and rain forest cafe.

Any recommendations for this time that will earn me cool mum points? Thinking maybe Tower of London and a nice lunch somewhere a bit different.

Thank you!

My 13 year old love Madame Tussards. It's got lot's of modern people and took us a good 2 hours to go round.

Sky Garden, you have to book a free 1hr visit
ST paul's
millennium Bridge to hunt for the chewing gum art
Tate Modern
Plenty of places to eat at Bankside

Power Up! at the Science Museum was a great hit with my DS & friends this holiday, though they all enjoyed a good wander around a lot of the other exhibits there too.

A trip on the DLR was apparently excellent(!), and the Sky Garden was another one that they liked.
When are you planning to go to London? Ice skating at Somerset House or Greenwich might still be on, both of which are lovely after dark.

If he enjoyed the dungeons he would enjoy the Guy Fawkes Experience!

Thames Rockets speedboat trip if he's a thrill seeker - a tour of some of London's biggest sights by river, then they floor it and you blast along for a bit! So good!

Kellioo · 04/01/2024 19:33

Thank you! Lots of great ideas that I'll add to the list.

I've not heard of the Guy Fawkes experience, that sounds right up his street and the speedboat sounds like mine!

We're going in the Feb half term but I'll tell him next week, then he can look at all the suggestions and pick.

I really recommend the Guy Fawkes experience - it's immersive - you are part of the plotters gang and go around various adventures, sometimes with virtual reality headsets on. I went with an elderly parent and teenagers and we all loved it! It's right next door to the Tower of London.

Sky Garden is much better than it sounds especially if you do Tower of London first, then peer down on it. I would fit in a show such as School of Rock.

My 13 year old recently loved the following day out:

Exit tube at London Bridge

Street food and a gawp at Borough Market

Awesome Korean neon art exhibition - super trendy and Instagrammable https://delightexhibit.com/london/

Them walk along river to Waterloo, stopping to look at the Globe theatre, Gabriel's Wharf, grab some churros from a van, browse the book stalls outside the BFI, check out the skateboarders and graffiti and finally Festival Hall for loos and a drink before heading home.

Delight: Media Art Exhibition London

Take a tour through a dynamic city made by artists who have lived in Seoul. Feel their day-to-day life with this immersive Delight exhibition in London.

My teens loved the Sky Garden, and then going into the Bank of England museum (free) where you can lift a gold bullion bar.
Then you could walk over the Millennium Bridge to Bank Side and explore that area. The Globe, Tate Modern, Clink Museum etc are in that area.
If you eat/like meat, there is a branch of Flat Iron in Clink Street. Quite a 'cool' restaurant chain and not too pricey if you stick to the main menu.

Pusspot · 04/01/2024 21:53

And Borough Market is definitely worth visiting - loads of street food available.

DisforDarkChocolate · 04/01/2024 21:56

If your there for breakfast go to Dishoom. The bacon naan are amazing, great atmosphere.

Kellioo · 06/01/2024 08:36

Thank you, some great suggestions. Will definitely do the Sky Garden and then he can choose one of the other activities.
Thanks again.
