How much money will I need for this trip to NYC?

I'm going by myself in March. Wednesday 4pm arrival (their time) to Wednesday 5pm (their time).

Hotel and flights are paid for as are attractions I'm interested in via a New York Pass. I intend to travel by subway although I'll get a taxi from the airport (Newark) to the hotel (near Central Park).

There's nothing major I want to do. I might purchase a few things but nothing extravagant. So just diner food and hot dogs etc, tips and walking around thinking "crikey I'm in New York". Won't be drinking much if any alcohol.

Thanks

$100 a day?

Is there a tax/resort fee to pay to your hotel?

I was in America in November and it’s so expensive. I found prices to be double the dollars to what they are here in pounds. So a £8 starter is about $16, tips are about 20%.
I am going early May so am interested to hear feedback about the New York Pass.
Your taxi will be about £100.

I agree with the PP. I was in New York in November for the first time since 2009 and was shocked how expensive everything was, of course the exchange rate is much worse now as well than it was back then. If you eat our on top of the tip the prices listed outside restaurants don't include any tax.

We went in November for 8 nights (2 of us). We spent £1500 in that time, but this included taxi to and from airport, all the attractions we did, food and drink (we had one meal that was £200), cinema, subway and resort fee. I thought it would be more so I was surprised. I did some shopping but that was separate from the other spends.

I don't think the hotel includes resort fees. I'm not planning on eating anywhere fancy.

I'm aware of the tax on clothes too, so if a pair of jeans is $45 it's actually more like $60 etc

I'll be doing loads of walking so no taxis other than to get from the airport and even that's only if I'm really tired from the flight

Take mire money than you think.
We were in new York last summer and every single thing was eye wateringly expensive- from a cup of coffee to a sandwich to a beer....everything

turkeyboots · 03/01/2024 21:35

Food and drink are expensive. $15 for a small glass of house wine last Nov! A beer in my hotel was $10. Takeaway was cheap enough but eating at McDonalds in New York didn't make it feel like a holiday.

NewYearNewMeBullshit · 04/01/2024 20:06

It DOES include resort tax, what the fuck is that all about anyway?! 18 dollars per night!
