What absolutely ridiculous and inconsequential things have put you off a partner?

I don't mean completely acceptable reasons like poor hygiene, lying, flakiness etc. I mean things that the poor other person could not possibly have anticipated would mean the end of their relationship.

For me it was many years ago when I finally finally got together with a lad I'd had a crush on for about 3 years. About 2 months after we started seeing each other he invited me to his house. Which is where he committed the unforgivable sin of picking up a broom and sweeping the kitchen floor.

That was it. 3 years of obsessing over him and, just like that, a bloody sweeping brush came between us.

"Please don't wear coconut body lotion. I do like it, but it smells like my mum".

Stone dead 😅

MILTOBE · 03/01/2024 17:36

I spoke to a guy on the phone (from a dating site) - he said I made him chuckle. That was the end of the call for me.

Fudgeytastic · 03/01/2024 17:39

I was only thinking of this earlier when I was brushing up some crumbs. My ex used to say 'brush and dustpan' instead of 'dustpan and brush' and it used to irrationally really annoy me. He did a whole ton of annoying things though but that was the most inconsequential Grin

Totally understandable.

He cooked couscous for us with a lot of stuff added including feta cheese. The feta cheese pieces were too small for my liking and when he went to get a second helping for himself he fished almost all the tiny pieces of feta cheese leaving virtually none for me if I decided to have a second helping too.

FreshFields · 03/01/2024 17:41

We were 18 and went to a party and he wore a jumper with a diamond pattern - I was mortified cos my stepdad had the same jumper!

Another as teens he had a long black trench coat with GOLD lining.

Another never washed his pillowcases ew! Bye bye

12menandtrue · 03/01/2024 17:45

He was wearing socks with sandals. He had to go.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/01/2024 17:47

He dyed his hair pink.

wendywoopywoo222 · 03/01/2024 17:47

Had a shower and then proceeded to use talcum powder. Never saw him again.

bloodyeffinnora · 03/01/2024 17:48

theDudesmummy · 03/01/2024 17:49

He wore a baby blue cardigan to a smart London restaurant.

SparkleyMud · 03/01/2024 17:49

Dying with laughter at this 🤣

Crossed his legs like Lily Savage when sitting. No.

DoesNotPlayWellWithIdiots · 03/01/2024 17:51

Years ago I went on a date with a bloke I'd fancied for a while and things were going well until he randomly did a very good impression of Sid the ground sloth from the film Ice Age. Totally killed it for me and there was never a second date.

Sleepsleepsleep123 · 03/01/2024 17:51

By the end, the way he breathed.

The most wonderful gorgeous kind man, wore a short sleeve check shirt on first date. Couldn’t get past it!

Sandysandwich · 03/01/2024 17:53

He said "Ooh whoopsie" when he dropped something or knocked something over. It happened about 4 or 5 times on our first date and really put me off him.

@MustIthough 🤣🤣🤣 same cannot abide the short sleeve shirt!

I could not get over one being called Jason.

One traded in a fun VW car for a Lada and that was it, all lights gone out!

Lpoc · 03/01/2024 17:57

Wore a tricorn hat to the pub.
One of the biggest regrets of my life is not forgiving that hat. I was looking for a life partner. But decided he could not wear a tricorn hat. I went on to have several abusive relationships. The man with the tricorn hat met and married someone soon after and they live a beautiful life (we still have mutual friends).
Next time, I'll look past the hat!

Skidmarink · 03/01/2024 17:58

I once got dumped because I knocked an empty beer bottle off a nightclub table and it smashed on the floor. He absolutely kicked off, I think he said something about disgusting yobbish behaviour. Because I knocked a bottle over 🤷‍♀️
