Times Subscribers - is it still possible to generate share tokens for non-subscribers?

I may be being dense but I can't work out how to do it - when I click the 'share' buttons I just get the normal URL, which still can't be accessed outside the paywall. Are they no longer a thing, or is it only for certain subscribers, or certain articles?

Surprising lack of information on this via Google!

@EffortlessDelegation Nope, if I click on it whilst logged out it is paywalled.

The share token URLs I've seen shared on here are usually much longer and have 'share token' in there somewhere

@Scampuss I haven't been a subscriber for long and have never managed to create them. Do you normally just click 'share' in the normal way to generate one?

@QuimReaper yes, I usually just hit the share button, copy the link, and a share token is generated. Thinking back it does go squiffy sometimes.

What was the solution to this? I haven't been able to generate shareTokens for some time now on either the app or the web. Have tried clearing the cache, logging out and back in etc. The only thing I've found via google is this (old) thread!

I know what it should look like (have been able to get them in the past) - my problem is that the sharetoken query string in the url is always missing now.

It works for me through the app but not the website.

I’m demonstrating that it’s still possible for me- they haven’t stopped doing share tokens. Maybe try deleting and downloading the app again.

Unfortunately reinstalling doesn't fix the problem. Also the same on iPhone, Android, and different browsers in Windows and Mac

The app typically logs me out several times a day.
Don't really want to hang on the phone to the Times to hear IT Crowd suggestions I've already tried...could be time to cancel the subscription.

It tells me I need to log in to make comments most days but if I go back to the article and then comments again it turns out that I am logged in after all, it is very irritating. This is the first time I have actually been logged out though.

I occasionally get logged out as do my DD and dad. Not sure why when the app hasn't been updated.
