Do you have artificial flowers in your house?

I once spent a lot of money on some as they were suppose to look and feel real - but they definitely didn’t 😅

I do think the preserve roses looks nice .. but maybe quite common now.

No. Our local florist sells lovely gerbera daisies for a few quid and they last 10 days or so.

YellowHighHeels · 03/01/2024 15:00

No they never look real. Living plants or cut foliage last longer than most flowers, ivy, that kind of thing. You can always tell fake and I think it gives a room a stifling feel

DappledThings · 03/01/2024 15:01

No, but I'm thinking about getting some of the Lego ones.

JaninaDuszejko · 03/01/2024 15:03

No, we have rsal plants and real cut flowers. Real flowers smell much better.

CalFran · 03/01/2024 15:03

Yes I have fake flowers and fake water. Well, it's not actually fake water, just unnecessary water to make the fake flowers look real.

Magenta65 · 03/01/2024 15:05

Yeah I have a floral arrangement in a tall vase, my sister and mother do similar. Only a few dotted around the house, small and larger arrangements. I donot get a lot of natural light so plants aren’t too happy in my home and given damp issues I like to keep water etc in the home to a minimum. You have to accept they won’t look 100% real but you can find some lovely ones

usedtobeasizeten · 03/01/2024 15:12

An orchard in a pot I was given, otherwise I always have fresh flowers.

Dobbyatemysocks · 03/01/2024 15:13

I have a mixture of house plants, flowers - real and fake.

I mix real with fake.

In the bathroom I have a spider plant and then I've added fake ivy to it. The ivy runs down and around the corner unit. I did this because, although I love ivy, it can damage the walls with it's suckers.

I have some sunflowers in old lemonade bottles on a shelf in the kitchen and about once a month, I give them a "shish" in a bowl of hot soapy water. They dry really quickly and come up like new.

This is the first year I will have a door wreath and I'm planning on adding flowers, leaves etc for the seasons and special celebrations.

I've also brought/seen really expensive fake flowers/plants that look awful. But I've also found some of the cheapest to be brilliant.

If I really love a plant/flower then I try to buy one and because of the way most nurseries start their plants (3-5 seeds per pot) I normally split the original plant and get a few more extra.

Currently, I am waiting/working on a mother in law plant that I got reduced (26p) from Asda last year. It looks like I will get about 6-10 plants from it when I repot her when the weather gets warmer.

Great as gifts and I donate quite a lot.

I have a few artificial plants in odd corners, where a live one would struggle to survive. The rest of my house plants are real, and DH often buys me a bunch of flowers.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 03/01/2024 15:20

Yep, But mine are all made from Lego.

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 03/01/2024 15:32

Yes - my wedding flowers in a vase next to my bed. They're obviously fake, given the colour, but I don't care. I love them.

DancefloorAcrobatics · 03/01/2024 15:38

Yes, I have bog standard bird of paradise and some leaves in a big vase.

They do add a splash of colour to an otherwise dull corner.
I keep them clean by hovering...
They look fake and don't try to pretend to be anything else.

caringcarer · 03/01/2024 15:40

I've got fresh flowers in the kitchen window and Lego flowers in the sitting room and the Lego orchid in the sitting room as well. I got given them for Xmas by my DS.

Papyrophile · 03/01/2024 15:43

To clean fake flowers (especially the expensive silk ones), put them blossom down into a plastic bag and tip in a couple of handfuls of cooking salt, then shake the bag really well holding the bag and stems tightly. The dust will be removed; take the flowers out and throw the salt away. Job done.

Ewoklady · 03/01/2024 15:44

I like fresh flowers but I have these on my dressing table and I love them

UnravellingTheWorld · 03/01/2024 16:14

No flowers in my home, real or fake. I hate them. Made sure my husband knew very early in our relationship never to waste money buying me flowers.

Peoplemakemedespair · 03/01/2024 16:16

Same as @Dobbyatemysocks I’ve got real mixed in with fake and people can’t tell the difference. Especially with my orchids. I do have what are clearly fake sunflowers in my living room, they make it look cheerful though so I don’t care

PamelaParis · 03/01/2024 16:17

Only Lego ones.

Boredatthemoment · 03/01/2024 16:17

Just Lego flowers and plants

Dobbyatemysocks · 03/01/2024 16:33

@Peoplemakemedespair love your username 😊😊

At the end of the day it's what makes us happy and how much effort you are willing to put in.

Currently, I'm spending an about an hour, twice weekly, to dust/clean/water my plants - i find it a great way to have downtime as I WFH in a stressful job. It helps me clear my mind and come up with solutions. I've been WFH for 30 years as the environment is better but I can work 18hour days, so I need these little tools to help force me to have a break.

DogsAreBetterThanHusbands · 03/01/2024 17:21

Yes. I bought some from John Lewis. They are lovely and people have thought they were real until they touched them.

ApolloandDaphne · 03/01/2024 17:41

I have lovely dried ones from Shida. I think they look fantastic.
