Do you have artificial flowers in your house?

I once spent a lot of money on some as they were suppose to look and feel real - but they definitely didn’t 😅

I do think the preserve roses looks nice .. but maybe quite common now.

PS I’m aware fake flowers = plastic and initial airmikes as well

bunny85 · 03/01/2024 19:54

Yes I do. They are a very good quality ones though and absolutely gorgeous, the cheap ones can look a bit tacky in my opinion. I also have real flowers and plants too- I like to mix.

Kalevala · 03/01/2024 19:58

No, I have real plants, cuttings from walks like holly and mistletoe, occasionally daffodils when they are £1.

Madamlulu · 03/01/2024 20:07

I also haven't found any I love but I now
Like dried flowers and have some dotted around the house in little antique medicine bottles - very cheap & cute

Silverblue1985 · 03/01/2024 23:48

Yes - a lot of IKEA plants, mainly in dark areas where plants kept dying!

Dorriethelittlewitch · 03/01/2024 23:57

I have wooden tulips, a Harris tweed rose, paper flowers hanging around a picture and a fake poinsettia (because I cant keep any other variety of poinsettia alive). I also have the almost 6 year old roses from my father's funeral encased in wax which were alive and now aren't so much.

Dc2 (5) has quite a few in her room. She loves the fake flowers/plants bit of IKEA. She's got sunflowers from a Van Gogh exhibition, camellias, some bizarre looking pink things and various plastic plants.

Dc1 has a plaster halloween plant complete with teeth and a pet rat. He also has a mini glasshouse full of real plants.

I don't. I don't think it matters what they cost, even the most expensive of them still do look artificial. I have kidded myself a couple of times in the past that they don't and tried to get used to them..but they just do don't they. I think it's fine if you like that look or enjoy having them around, there's nothing wrong with them but when I've had them I find my eye is always drawn to them with a bit of a...'they're just not quite right are they' type of thought.

I don't generally have real flowers any more either, just find it all a bit wasteful.

inloveandmarried · 04/01/2024 00:24

Yes I do, I'm extremely fussy and if they don't look real they don't make the cut.

The only issue is dust. They need shaking outside regularly.

Mine are four years old now and still look good. They cost a small fortune and I ordered about three times as much as you can't judge the quality until you see them. A lot were donated to charity as they didn't look realistic enough.

The key to artificial flowers is a lot of very good foliage.

My display is a semi formal wedding type arrangement and it still gives me much pleasure to look at each day.

shivawn · 04/01/2024 00:37

Yep I have a fake plant in a plastic pot on the hallway radiator cover. I really don't care if it looks real or not, it's just there for a splash of colour. My toddler pulls it down at least twice a week so no point even thinking about putting a really one there.

Mushroomwithaview · 04/01/2024 00:39

One of my children bought me a fake orchid because they noticed how much I love it when my orchids flower and thought I would love one that flowers all year round. I love it because I love the thoughtful intention behind that particular gift. It's a very realistic one too - but no, apart from that one specific plant that I love, it's not the same at all. The joy of a plant or flowers is that they're real, living things.

pizzaHeart · 04/01/2024 01:07

Yes, the arrangement in a small vase from Next, it sits on the shelf in the kitchen and looks really lovely and cheer me up. The real one won’t survive there.

I have lovely dried ones from Shida. I think they look fantastic.

How do you keep them clean?

Andthereyougo · 04/01/2024 01:39

Lego flowers? Made from Lego that you build? How have I never heard of , or seen, these…. my mind is blown.
I just have plants, some are huge and taking over the house.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 04/01/2024 01:42

Not flowers, but I have artificial plants in my bathroom.
I figure it gets too hot and steamy in there for real plants.
I also have some fake eucalyptus stems which look quite good in my kitchen.

Can't beat real plants but I seem to constantly kill plants so I gave in

Trez1510 · 04/01/2024 04:19

I have some fake white tulips in a (navy) vase on my kitchen table. They're pretty and cheer me up.

Otherwise, it's fresh flowers bought randomly by partner.

I'm a plant-killer of great renown, so no plants at all.

Tereseta · 04/01/2024 04:23

I have my wedding bouquet in a vase. Decided to have all silk flowers as the type I wanted were out of season. I think they look realistic and obviously they have special meaning.

HappyDaze23 · 04/01/2024 04:33

I have a vase of dried flowers in my living room. They weren’t cheap and our local florist arranged them in the vase for me so they’re really nicely done. Been going strong for three years.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/01/2024 04:45

Yes, in a couple of bedrooms and a bathroom. I don’t intend to buy anymore. They aren’t realistic but still look nice.

Housefullofcatsandkids · 04/01/2024 07:40

I have Lego flowers, my eldest bought them for me because I cannot keep plants alive!

Startingagainandagain · 04/01/2024 08:59

Yes. I also have a lot of real plants and some fresh flowers in vases.

I have the fan ones in places where. there is less light and real ones would struggle to thrive.

Yeah, today's fake flowers are seriously detailed, but the downside is, if you wanna keep 'em lookin' fresh, you gotta dust 'em regularly. I mean, dust just loves to ruin the vibe. I really like their flowers

I have some in the conservatory where normal flowers would die of cold or heat depending on the time of year.
I am not worried that they might be “common” because I am 56 and don’t give a toss what others think about my decor.
