Wish postman/woman would leave it

I have been sleeping in a lot lately and can’t change this too much and I know it’s no one else’s fault but I need the rest.
the postman has knocked on 3 separate occasions, always early in the morning and then posted a postcard through my door to book a redelivery. I did but there were no time slots. Maybe I’m just tired but door knocking sets me off, I cant answer the door. The books I bought were cheap. Before anyone asks, no, I am not and will never be able to go to a collection point and I won’t be discussing why, I just can’t

A parcel box outside, note on door to say you are happy to have them left in there? Please no need to knock. Can't see any other solution

AnchorWHAT · 03/01/2024 09:51

Could you Leave a note on the door asking them to put it somewhere you can access safely?

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/01/2024 09:52

Don't you have an area they can leave it in ? For me deliveries are left in my blue recycling bin (which is for paper)

JobMatch3000 · 03/01/2024 09:53

When I had a newborn baby and was receiving lots of gifts, I left a postcard for the postie in the window explaining I had a new baby, and needed sleep so could they please not ring the bell and just put packages in my safe place. Worked for me.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/01/2024 09:53

X posted with everyone

Newnameshoos · 03/01/2024 09:55

Can you go online and put a delivery note for the postie to leave your parcel in a safe place e.g. a plastic box with lid outside your door? Or could you try putting a wee note on your door?

AnotherCountryMummy · 03/01/2024 09:56

I spoke to my postman about this recently. Royal Mail have toughened up on the rules and won't allow parcels to be left in safe spaces. Its such a shame, especially if the recipient is willing to take the risk of the parcel being left.

margotrose · 03/01/2024 09:56

Get them delivered to the post office and collect from there,

She has just said that's not possible.

fancydays · 03/01/2024 09:59

Note on the door: I am home, please knock once and leave parcel by the door.

JustanotherMNSlapperTwat · 03/01/2024 10:00

Can you get a delivery box?

liveforsummer · 03/01/2024 10:01

My post is the same since we have various post people. My old postman used to just leave it, even if it was sign for. Now I have safe place instructions set but they will ignore it around 4 times before eventually leaving it where I've requested. It's pointless for them to keep re trying as I'm out on post days at work. Just read the instructions FFS

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/01/2024 10:03

You can get quite large parcel delivery boxes these days. They are like the old mailboxes but bigger. It affixes to an exterior wall so nobody can run off with it

TinkerTiger · 03/01/2024 10:04

It's awful, I've not had a present I needed for Christmas because of this. Still don't have it.

I live in flats and they won't even get buzzed in and leave inside. Delivery Office only open between 8-10. Never have this issue with Evri or DPD.

Ordered the item from Amazon and if I'd known they'd be using Royal Mail I wouldn't have bothered.

Well they certainly still give the option. I have just 5 minutes ago re set my safe space for a parcel that it was already set for and has been ignored. As above they generally ignore and try to deliver 4 times before following it

Depending on the service used to send the items the postie may need to take a photo of the item in a safe place in order to deliver.
Somewhere out of sight and under cover.
Just leaving things on the doorstep isn't an option and they're risking their job if they do just dump stuff on the step. Most things these days require photo proof of delivery.

Leave a plastic box at the front door with a note written on the lid to just leave things in there and not knock. You'll get your parcels with the postie not having to take risks with their employment.

Disabledmomma · 03/01/2024 10:08

I can’t get to the door either. If I’m upstairs it’s a huge faff to get down and into my wheelchair.
I’ve asked for all my deliveries to be hidden behind a plant pot in the recess next to the door. My OH or one of the children brings items in when they get home. My security camera covers the area, I can talk to the drivers/ postie to leave them there. Could that work? There’s only one other house past mine and we are pretty rural here.

I will get round to sourcing a deliveries box soon.

JustExistingNotLiving · 03/01/2024 10:20

@Riseandshinee i feel for you.
in a similar place so I’ve put a huge sign on the door showing where my safe place is (not easily accessible if you wanted to pinch said parcels).

They still propose to re deliver, leave parcel with a NDN etc… 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Whoopitywhoops · 03/01/2024 10:20

You can't expect the postie to keep going back and forward to your house. Answer the door or don't order stuff online to get delivered. They can't be expected to be at your beck and call.

Any thoughts on posters suggestions for registering a safe space, leaving a note, Or getting a parcel postbox?

This we have a parcel box outside (a fancy one I got on Etsy I love it!)

Then when I get emails through with delivery times I just select the parcel box as a safe place if I’m not in.

Annoyingly though Royal Mail are the mos likely to ignore the parcel box and try to leave it with my nightmare neighbours a lot! I think they have slightly stricter policies on what they can leave. Any other delivery company go straight for the box as I think it saves them time and I prefer it that way too as I can get my parcel in my own time.

To be fair OP all possible suggestions have been suggested. Get that you've paid for the items but aren't there any of the suggestions that work for you? At the end of the day posties are only trying to do their job

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/01/2024 10:30

I've got a black opaque storage box outside the front door with 'parcels please' on it - it works, and is a cheap solution.

I thought Royal Mail weren't allowed to randomly leave parcels lying about in a place they deem 'safe', but if you leave a written instruction on the door that they can photograph, that says to leave parcels in x place then that's fine.
