Best place you've been for short break?

I take adult DD's away every year for
a few days.

I'm needing ideas for this year.

So far we've done... London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, New york, Amsterdam.

Krakow is on our list but can anyone else suggest somewhere we could try. Three nights tops (preferably two as I've younger dc) we like to do things not just sit around and are all foodies/drinkers. Any inspiration welcome.

Bruges is close for a couple of nights. Three nights you could go to any of the European capitals. They all have their unique great bits.

I was about to say Krakow before I saw you mention it, really nice weekend away even better if you like chocolate and vodka. Other ones I’ve enjoyed , Dublin , Rome , Berlin, Florence and Budapest

We visited Munich in June 2022 and loved it. The weather was beautiful, really walkable with great public transport, great museums and art galleries, the outdoor beer gardens are fab and some really lovely outdoor swimming pools dotted around the city. My favourite European city.

Bruges is nice, small so very doable for two or three days. I absolutely loved Stockholm. Not the cheapest if you want to drink alcohol but tbh it’s probably on a par cost-wise with the UK these days for eating out. Loads of things to do and beautiful.

Istanbul was gorgeous.

Spice markets, historic palaces & mosques, a stunning river cruise, cobbled streets & cute tram rides, the silly little show they put on when you get an ice cream from a stall, great food, lovely people... I loved it. Flight was cheap and not too long, and only a miniscule time difference.

I went for a weekend in autumn and the weather was perfect - might be very hot in the summer though.

Another stunning place I'd love to go back to is San Sebastian in the Basque country, northern Spain. Especially good if you like spending time on the beach!

I'm not great on city breaks because I'm more likely to pick a countryside location with lots of walks. But I can say that Barcelona is lovely, lots to see, lots to eat and it's by the sea which just adds a certain something.

In the UK, Inverness is great for a weekend. Lots of restaurants and live music playing in pubs. 2 nights would be ideal, and it has the airport so it's surprisingly quick and easy to get to.

Rome! You won’t see everything but you can do a few of the heavy hitters in two days. Very walkable city. Foodie paradise as well.

CormorantStrikesBack · 14/05/2024 17:11

Ghent. Nicer than Bruges but close enough you can take the train to Bruges for a day.

TakeOnFlea · 14/05/2024 17:25

Venice, Verona or Bergamo.

Easy flight with Ryanair, short transfer by regular bus from the airport

Ooh, also - Milan! Great food, epic cathedral, art, theatre, and you can hop on a train up to Lake Como for the day as it's only about 40 mins away. SO beautiful.
